Title: LMG42: Squad gimp for only 70 MU!

0.1 accuracy at long range...afaik thats on par with pio mp40s...

So basically, I hopped on one of my VERY rarely used axis accounts and went in thinking "gee, 14 squads of grens + lmg42 ~= 14 rifles + bars". Uh, BARs kick the shit out of the LMG42 (SF not included); the LMG42 (IMO) needs some sort of accuracy increase to justify its price. Right now Id rather use vanilla Grens because I can generate a more accurate and consistent DPS with their rifles then the LMG42. What are people's thoughts on this; is the LMG42 justified for 70 MU? How effective do you think it is as a weapon? What can be done (if the need arises to do so) to improve the LMG42?

I just don't see it as a particularly tempting weapon unless its an upgrade on a Vet2 or higher squad. And on that note, dont Support Grenadiers use the same weapon (which would make them undesireable as a reward unit)?

EDIT: Yes, I realise that my arguments may be called into question because I rarely play with the axis factions.

Don't LMG42's get a minor suppression value?

And support grenadiers for PE used to be a faction wide unit, and used to be great at supression, but they were taken out as they wern't needed as scorched earth got a LMG42 team and what not.

I personally enjoy the LMG42, it pretty much exemplifies the Axis strategy: secure and advance. You obviously can't just send an LMG squad out running across cover with guns blazing like a BAR squad, the idea is to stay in heavy cover and let the LMG lay down the hurt. It also works exceptionally when garrisoned.

long range - bar
short range - lmg.

1 lmg with 4 men beats 2 bars with 6 men in it at short range.

at long range, 6 men with 2 bars shoudl beat 4 men with 1 lmg.

so, basically any side volks plays with is UP lmao

The simple solution - Stop using your LMG's at long range and expect them to kill something.

It's like complaining that MP44's are UP because they don't rape face at long range... The weapon isn't designed to be killing shit at long range, and neither is the LMG.

What the LMG CAN do however, is suppress when used in pairs.

never said it should be faster, front armor is weaker than panthers and tiger is a better tank by tier and cost and don't bring realism bs, longer range by 5 to bring it other anti tank standards is debatable.

I can bring x50 times the ammount of stuff you said Tym which is ridiculous then you'd find on me.

real life - pathers frontal armor was stronger than a tiger because of the slope, so in one instance, coh mirrors reality.

and lol +5 range, no AI tank has over 40 range, so you'd do the same to the tiger, it takes it out of the realm of what its uses for, a dual role tank. Only dedicated AT can fire over 40.

just cuz u disagree with me doesn't mean i'm ridiculous, you get more flak than i ever do dude. and i dont keep arguing when i'm proven wrong yet you keep goin and troll and belittle people. I've never been banned from balance, you have twice.

Who cares about LMG long range accuracy(which its .13 not .1 btw). Its irrelevant. What you can do is take advantage of the +5 range over other smallarms giving you early suppression dealt upon the enemy squad.

Everything axis does better at range(as a general rule)

Panthers want range, HMG's want range, Volks beat rifles at range,(rifles beat volks up close) Grens beat rifles at range.

The dynamic switches with LMG's and BAR's but a BAR squad will still eat your face off even worse in close range and the Garands will add more punch to the fight. an LMG gives a massive kick to DPS when people get to close.


Why you're trying to LMG people from max range is beyond me. using your troops so enemies have to expose themselves to your best engagement range is half the knowledge behind using infantry.

But doesn't the LMG42 have longer range than other infantry weapons? Plus you're usually supporting your LMG grens with HMGs and mortars and officers and what not so fighting at long range doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. I think they are great at long range.
