Hey guys,

I've been working on this map for a little while, and I was just wondering whether anyone has any thoughts or criticism about the basic layout, since quite a lot of the map is still open to revision or change.

It needs more detail and gubbins, but quite a bit of it is in a decent playable condition.

Some close up shots would be nice.

Also: turn off fog in the "settings -> atmosphere" (you can uncheck the box that sais Fog).

Then turn on the "toggle playable area" (under layers) so we can see how big it is, etc.

Some close up shots could be nice too Wink.
(and possibly the mapname_mm image found in your scenarios folder)

Added some pictures. As you can see, it needs polish, but that will hopefully come with time.

Thats looking pretty darn good.
Don't forget to add tons and tons of splats & splines everywhere Smiley.

It's alot of work but it's what gives your map the Relic touch.
(You can also use relic map "atmospheres" by extracting them with Corsix' tools and then loading them in the worldbuilder. Saves you a lot of effort in creating an atmosphere Smiley.)

Do you mind if I advertise your map when I make another news post on ModDB (on the release of 1.7?)  It'll get us on the front page there (they require pictures to be on the front page no matter how significant the news).  Of course you'll get full credit...

Sure you can advertise the map Smiley I'm glad you like it. Thanks for the tip about atmospheres by the way, it'll be helpful. Will hopefully have a completely finished basic version out soonish...

For the orchard and lumber yard I would suggest making the objects slightly off center.  It will look a little more realistic if you break the symmetry a little.  Doesn't have to be much, just enough to avoid looking like they planted trees with precision accuracy.

I have to agree with Kolath, especially in the orchard. I work for a nursery, so I plant trees alot, it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to get them that even. (luckily customers and the boss don't care that much if their perfect Smiley)

If any of you are looking for trees that can survive -30C winters (with some days being -50C ) contact me. Grin

Yeah, I haven't done much on the small island and the open areas off to the right yet, they're very much unfinished. I almost wish I could crop the map now and make it thinner Smiley

I will break the symmetry of the orchard a bit. You can tell how much time I spend in orchards Smiley It's little things like that that are nice to know.

Once you get to detailing keep the following in mind:

Using "transparancy" for splats & splines will make a big difference in how well they blend in with the environment.

For splines you should go into the "colorise" tab and turn the lower bar more or less grey/white. This will make it look "more dirty" and it will blend in better with the environment.
(Takes a while to get the hang of it but after trying some stuff out you'll get the hang of it. You can also try using different colors for different effects.)

For splats there's an "opacity" (I believe thats what it's called) bar you can just adjust it to make it less dominant in comparison to the surroundings.
