this is the problem:
you have a tank battle, you tank just survives the fight with 1 HP left, and engine destroyed. the enemy is forced back, but you cant get your tank off the field becouse he has no more repairs and its uber slow.
it eats population somewhere at the back of the map where are no enemies. it will never get killed, but you cant get it of the field.

games are being lost becouse of this. i couldnt call in a glider to kill the repairing panther becouse of i had a cromwell with engine destroyed at the middle of the map.
at the end, the enemy had a full health panther again, and my cromwell still got killed when it was halfway back to spawn.

i want a self destruct button so i can blow up my tank, and call in new units again.
in fact, i think pros might even keep such enemy tanks alive instead of killing them since theyre no treat to them, but they do eat popcap for the enemy.

Use panzerschreck/ATG/Grenade/Anything with some AOE damage to kill the tank off?
But yes, we used to have a self destruct feature and it might come back. (In one shape or form -> Crew abandon maybe)

Would be cool if you could abandon the tank but it would stay on field so you couldn't deny xp from the enemy.

Just like when the last man of an infantry squad escapes.

Maybe the crew would be walking so you couldn't do it in the middle of a firefight.

Crew abandon would be nice, only problem with is....How would you put a downside to it?
Since if you leave the tank, obviously you lose your tank, but would there be any other negitives, otherwise we are going to see a LOAD of vet 3 vechiles after a little while...

How would crew abandon make more vet 3 tanks? Retreating off the map is the best way, unless decrew is a insta gtfo the tank and sprint.

Tbh id do it and kill the tank with another tank for the vet.

Easy as that. Make it 30 seconds after clicking the button.

Then they will retreat to spawn. That leaves enough time to finish it off. That would also encourage players to make a rescue mission to evacuate them Shocked

There is no downside to retreating infantry is there? No need for a downside of retreating tanks and airplanes.

Yeah after they crash there should be a 50% chance for the crew to survive, and if the make it offmap you get another recon plane/bombing run/strafe for free!

I was assuming it be a retreat (as in they sprint) to the spawn. Didn't think about making so they have a timer to get, Think that probally the best way...

Also - It needs a lag.  You can't just have a tank fighting, then when a shell is incoming, push the button and have the men run like hell.

Even five or ten seconds is better, it means that it won't be an 'instant-save-vet' button for tanks, and needs to be used more carefully.

I think 20 seconds would be ok-ish as a starting number, we can balance from that point off.

It should depends on the vehicle type, sorta like repairs.

Greyhounds, Pumas, and other light stuff should have 5-second abandon.

Medium Tanks should have a ten-second abandon.

Heavy Tanks should have a fifteen-second abandon.
