Map Contest Deadline for Submissions: Wed, April 30th, 2008

Want YOUR map in rotation for Automatch in Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts™?

Relic® is proud to announce a map contest for Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts™! We would like to welcome your maps for submission to our contest, starting Wednesday, March 26th. You have three weeks to design a new map, or polish your previously created maps for the deadline on Wednesday, April 30th, 2008 at 12:00 PM PST (noon).

Rules:[/u]

1. You may submit a MAXIMUM of two maps total, and cannot submit more than one map per category of the following:
a)       1v1
b)       2v2
c)       3v3
d)       4v4

2. You must include an action screenshot, a screenshot of your mini map, an overhead screenshot of your map, .txt description of your map, and all necessary files in an archive (WinZip, WinRAR).

3. You must post a description of your map with a small screenshot (less than 500 pixels horizontally) and a download link to your map files archive in this thread.

4. You must also e-mail community@relic.com with your username and map name in the subject line (e.g. JoeSchmo – 4v4 Map “Pwnage”) with the download link.

5. If your download link doesn’t work, you will be disqualified. Please find a good file host.

6. All maps must adhere to the following design rules:
a) Building sets are limited to 1 (one) building set per map (e.g. Rural, Urban, or Industrial.
b) Do not use decals.
c) Keep render calls at around 300.
d) Try to limit water to 1 (one) water source.
e) Keep maps light. Too much variety in textures and objects will use up too much video memory.

7. Your map must be in SGA format.

8. You must get your map “balance-tested” by other peers in the community before submitting it to Relic®.

Judging:[/u]
-          Maps will be judged by myself, mukkel, the Balance Team, Developers, and the community (via polling)!
-          Maps will be judged on balance, creativity, and fun factor

Prizes:[/u]

The Grand Prize winner of each category will receive:
-          A chance to be included in automatch rotation
-          A Relic® Prize Pack (Signed copy of Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts™, a Relic® t-shirt, a Relic® shot glass)

Disclaimer: Relic® reserves the right to not select a winner for any categories that have insufficient entries. Relic® also reserves the right to choose if a map should be entered into the official automatch rotation. All maps submitted to this contest are property of Relic® as per the EULA in Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts™ and Company of Heroes™.

Not going to bother Smiley.
Establishing a "base zone" takes too much effort and requires a too significant map overhaul.
My maps were designed for EiR, I just don't see them working for vCoH without a ton of effort.

yeah, wth, a tshirt for hours, maybe days of work??

what an unfruitfull attemp to get a good new map for zero costs for vcoh

pff. they can ask fl if he wants to take over coh, converting it completely into eir  Grin
SO not going to bother

big thumbs down for relic... poor move. they could at least give some real prices...

"Relic® is proud to announce a map contest" I would be ashamed working for relic at the moment

They'll probably add a river & bridges too Wink.

It's a cool initiative but not worth the many many days of work to get a map up to the right level imo.
Also, what use is being in the automatch rotation if no one even knows your name and if they basically assume it's just 'a relic map'.  Tongue

You get cash prizes for being on top of the leaderboard... Making a good map/mod > being good at playing a game.

It doesn't seem worth it at all, even though it wouldn't take much effort to convert over to a vanilla style map.  My maps are for EIR anyways.  Undecided  Maybe if they put in a cash prize it might be worth it.

Only the 1vs1 maps got added to the rotation.
And some of them were really shitty to be honest :/.

Du Mont sucks I agree, but Langres and Wrecked Train are pretty good imo.

People complain about pathing on WT but hey, there is a fucking train wreck people! Movement isn't gonna be easy.

It's a bit hard to pick winning good maps when I believe they only got 8 entries in total

Ha Ha, its good for me since all my maps start out as standard maps (converted to EiR, except a current project).

But top canidates appear to not meet requirements   Sad , to much detail  Grin.

Yeah the limited detail req seems a bit harsh.  But I agree with the overall sentiments that the prizes are too small compared to the effort required to make a map let alone convert an EiR map to vCoH.

On a somewhat tangential note, have any of the relic devs played EiR or talked to FL?  Does Buggo know about it?

I agree that the detail requirements are ridiculous, also they are totally hypocritical.

Basically what they are offering is a crappy prize pack for days of my time, complete with ridicule from the coh community because the map "looks like total shit in comparison to vCoH maps."

I think I will sit this one out
