This is an announcement thread Wink.  I plan on making a fairly urban map that is detailed enough to be appreciated by members of the community and all. It will utilize buildings as key elements of the map, thus all buildings (which i plan on having as few as possible of) will be placed quite carefully to ensure balance but provoke firefights as well. Lots of eyecandy will hopefully be placed in for your enjoyment, and particularly at the destruction of it all.

If you have any suggestions, please do put them in here before I finish planning. I will be updating this post with screens every so often until I finish the map.

Notre Ville means "Our Town" in French, you might want to change that (just pick a town at random on a map and it will be fine).

as far as the map goes, i think a purely urban map is a good idea... although generic cities get tiresome. maybe put a major crossroads in the middle or something?

I'm fully aware of what that means in French, that's why I chose it. I wanted a generic name for the map, and as a French student, I couldn't think of anything more generic than notre ville. I also do not want to tie myself to a constraint such as modelling a historical location just yet.

Honestly i plan to have key landmarks that will cause a lot of fighting to go around (critical defensive positions such as a town hall, a walled marketplace, and a courtyard in a residential area. There will be few choke points, and several side alleyways to take. I'm also implementing some very useful anti-spawn camping features. There will be a heavy cover brick wall around the spawn zones with two buildings for garrison. Two HMGS in those can cover a large area, which would be able to minimize the camping. There's a ton of cover, it'll be easier to defend.

looks very interesting; i look forward to seeing the results.

for the map name, sure, its generic; but its not realistic. if your looking for generic names, go for a saint's name; for instance, according to Wikipedia, there are 39 towns with the name Sainte-Marie, sometimes with a particularity (for instance, while there are 9 "Sainte-Marie", there are also 2 "Sainte-Marie-du-Bois", 2 "Sainte-Marie-du-Mont", etc.). The same is true of many saints.

An even better example is Saint John, with more then 100 towns having "Saint-Jean" in their names.

Yeah, and hedgerow siege is realistic? I don't really care about the name, this map is practice for more serious efforts.'

Edit: Some good progress made tonight on the initial layout of the thing, I'll post a few pics tomorrow.

It's on fire, tends to happen when bombs drop. I'll make things burn less in the suburban areas I am working on now. Play testing could happen as early as Wednesday.

Well...fix it slacker! The next time Ill be on around the same time as you though probably wont be until Sunday night.

See I have a very odd schedule I work 12hour shifts (7pm-7am) 3 days on, 3 days off, 2 days on, 2 days off, and then it repeats.  So I really only work 14-15 days a month but they are long days and I normally only get about 10 hours of sleep during the 3 days on.  I am normally on week days from 1pm to 4pm (at least until my wifes business opens, then we'll see).

Ok well thats my like story right there lol...didnt mean to ramble on.
