((PROBLEM SOLVED))

You're probably thinking "This belongs in the tech forum."  Well, it is in the tech forum, but there haven't been any solutions, or even replies, in almost a day - to what seems like a simple issue.  Since this forum gets more traffic, I figured it might help, so here it is:

I downloaded the EIR:R installer, double-clicked it, and all I get is a command console which quickly opens and closes.

Nothing happens.  It might be worth noting that I downloaded it from the link to Filefront provided on the menu bar to the left: "Download Latest Version!" and NOT through the forum link (which doesn't work).

Also, the installer is now locked - I have to use "Unlocker" to delete or even move it.

Did you run the installer in administrator mode?

I'm running XP Pro, so I figured I wouldn't have to, since...I never have to.

If I right-click and use "Run-As", I can run it as the current user (which is Admin level) option, I get an error which notifies me:

"A temporary file needed for initialization could not be created or could not be written to.  Make sure that the directory path exists, and disk space is available.  Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

Makes me wonder if the whole - EIRRSetup.exe being locked might have something to do with that for some reason.

If I right-click and use "Run-As", I can run it as the Administrator (also Admin level) option.  However, the error I get is:

"The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."

Which makes me wonder if customization of my services.msc could possibly have disabled something the installer would like to use.

These are just my stabs in the dark anyway...

This might help / clarify something ---

I went into User accounts and made sure my main account had Admin level.  I don't use a password - so I added one.  The effect is that, when I right-click and "Run As", using the admin account + pass, I get the same thing as if I just double click (...makes sense, since I use my admin account as my main) --- quick flash of the command console and a whole lotta nothing after that.

I'll need to ask eirrmod to look into this, I'm not a tech support wizard so I'm afraid I can't be of much help.
(And AFAIK we've never had anyone encounter this problem before)

Hopefully someone else will recognise the problem.

I downloaded the setup.exe 3 more times from Filefront.  It failed two more times, but the third time it installed correctly.

So - I think it was just Filefront having issues.

Moved to tech support for archiving purposes.

We will have a new .exe download with the latest files available after the doctrines are all integrated I believe.
Remind us to create multiple mirrors :p
