Alright!  Crossroads is now ready for its beta debut!!!  Grin Grin

Download Latest Version: http://files.filefront.com//;8237907;;/

Version History:
Beta 2:
  • Removed MG42s and Flak cannon
  • Added more cover along roads
  • Added significant cover around mansion command post
  • Added more trees in forest area
  • Some additional splats and splines (still a WiP)

I was inspired by Unkn0wn's great work with Road_to_Carentan to make a map of my own.  Please try it out and give me feedback.  This is my first mapping project so I'm sure there will be some really great gameplay criticism from the community!  I hope you enjoy!  Smiley

Requested Feedback:
  • Placement and prevalence of cover objects/splats (Is there enough cover? Too much?)
  • Choke points (Too many? Too few?)
  • Sector layout (Are sectors balanced?)

For inspiration I used Google Earth to look at northern France.  I settled on this hamlet on the outskirts of Villers-Bocage as the inspiration for my map:

Looking good, be sure to start looking into adding forests, farm fields & tons of splats & splines.

Oh definitely!  My goal is to lay down all of the blocking objects like walls and trees and then playtest it before I cover it in splats.

I hope to have a playable beta by tomorrow evening.  Here are some shots of the map in its current form:

I'm sort of making it from right to left.  I think the upper-left side will be a forested area, though I am wary of making it too full of chokepoints.

It's gonna need a lot more work before its quite at the playable beta stage. Examine the splats tab, especially flora, and things to put in the roads.
Fields need clutter Wink.

Well once I get all the impassible and cover objects/spats in place, then I want to test the gameplay.  And then once I nail down the placement of objects, I'll go to town with decorative splats.  But you're right, it might be too ambitious to get it done tomorrow, but definitely sometime this week.

Another update!  I just finished putting down harvest splines on the first set of fields.  I have lots of spalt/spline work left but the layout is almost complete.

The eponymous crossroads at the center of the map

Here is the current top-down view.  I could use some suggestions about what to do in the upper left corner.  The hill is sort of a haphazard forest area, but that whole corner needs work.  Same with the top area above the center of the map.  Let me know any suggestions you might have.  For the upper center I was thinking of making a destroyed axis AA emplacement.

Awsome map, we just had an epic battle on this map me and overlord vs, nevyen and migi.  Forgot to save the replay but it was a good fight.

Very detailed map, one of my new favorites.

I really like this map, its a fight for the center and it makes for an awsome map, it cant be completly closed of with wire and tank traps this is good, nor can it be completely garrisoned  for an easy win for the fisrt company to take the center it makes for a very good battle for experienced players.I like the fact that it is open towards the spawns as this make it a alot harder for an opponent to push your spawn. Its got alot of areas to flank around and cover to flank with in the center, the makes for alot oa disloding of garrisoned troops and favors tatics over mass.VERY GOOD WORK.
Thanks for your effort ill be playing it alot.

Thanks Migi and Anthony!  I appreciate the praise!  I will hopefully be releasing a new version tonight with some more cover and some tweaked sectors.  Stay tuned.
