All these abilities are nice, but personally I liked the old system where you had to pick tier 1 ability in order to be able to have the tier 2 ability of that path.

Currently the system also works like this:

Take 2 T4s and it will lock T3s even if you still have one doctrine point available. Intended?

Not intended, but unavoidable. Doctrine points are hard coded into the launcher and require EIRRmod to change them.

The current system is:
1. Buff 1 or 2 units
2. Spam them
3. Better cancer wins.
