Mar 02 2007 Next Phase
written by fldash | 5099 Views
We are rapidly approaching the next phase of testing. This phase will most likely be open to anyone registered on the forum and hopefully be able to provide us with much more feedback on the way the gameplay is shaping up. It's important that we take our time when going through these testing phases and get feedback from our testers. Our vision is great, but sometimes it helps to have some confirmation now and again that things are progressing the way they should.

We are currently in the gameplay testing phase. Basically, we want to make sure that the game is fun if you remove the economy, strategic points, and start with a pre-purchased units. Basically what our testers are currently doing is creating 'companies' using our costs and resource amounts posted on our site. These companies are coded into the modification and randomly come up on depending on map selection.

When the game starts, your units appear from the off map spot, not bunched and ridiculously, but slowly and uniformly. From there, each side is given a brief objective. To capture territory. You capture territory not by raising a flag, but by simply being in the sector with your units (and without their being enemy presence). The initial territory you capture, you are required to hold or suffer defeat.

After both sides capture the initial territory, the second objective pops up giving you orders to venture out. This is normally where the conflict takes place.

This objective style of gameplay only represents one scenario which is two companies moving into an undefended or neutral sector. Eventually more scenarios will be available such as attack/defend.

In a week, perhaps less, maybe more, we'll be releasing a web form that will allow you to purchase and buy your companies dynamically. You will be able to store as many companies as you want but each will be limited to specific resource limits. After you build your companies and store them in the database, you will be able to select a player you wish play. Their company list will pop-up (by name only). You select your company, and their company, and then an .sga file will be created and downloaded to you containing both of your unit configurations. From this point, you stick this file in your Company of Heroes/EuropeInRuins/Archive folder and you can then play the game (without -dev mind you) with your company and your opponents specific company configurations.

This system is the premise of Europe In Ruins without the war map, supply lines, taxes, etc... However it's important that we test these things while we continue to work on the features that will eventually come together into one piece and resemble a version of World War II Online with Company of Heroes as the front-end and our website as the management interface and backend.
