Although anyone else interested is welcome...

Lionel, here is the list of 28mm scale producing model websites that we use for Legends of the Old West, and the link to Warhammer Historical. Not all of them produce minis in the same 28mm scale however (base to eyes, top of head or sometimes to chin), there are some websites out there that review minis that can give you a better idea of what's in scale with each other and what's not. Oh, and Black Scorpion are 32mm scale (closer to GW minis tbh).

Scenery - http://www.hovelsltd.co.uk/wildwest.html (Though tbh, if you follow the foam-board model in the back of the main rule book, with a few variations you can make your own scenery pretty decently).

Hope that gives you plenty of browsing. Period wise, looking at Alamo to 1889 ish. American Civil War is pretty good aiming point for the most part, as is the Sioux War.
