Personally I'm of the opinion large resource discrepancies between the two sides due to the situation on the warmap undermine competitive play too much, i.e the side that is winning the warmap will also have a very significant advantage in every single game, effectively snowballing them to victory. (With unenjoyable gameplay for the side that has to take the beating)

So yea, there's definitely a point at which a resource advantage becomes undesirable, it's really just a matter of finding that point and not surpassing it.
Something along the lines of the old resource advantages is probably a fair maximum, i.e a player without vs a player with resource bonuses. Provided those situations occur only in the final stages of a war, and the losing side gets compensated by some sort of 'mass MP injection'. (To illustrate a side's desperate last ditch effort, mobilizing children, elderly, etc)
