well its not only that..not only is the code compiled, but the launcher prevents a release and then comes the fact that no one has website access.

Meaning for someone other than fldash to make 2.0 he would have to write new scar coding from scratch, than make a new launcher along with a new website....basically asking for 2.0 is like asking for someone to make a whole new persistancy mod without him.

hmm,

then again, fl- was one man.

and we could have a team.

+ we can infer a lot of fl's code from what we know about the mod and thus avoid the pitfalls that would have slowed him down.

idk man, i think it might b possible and i'd b willing to volunteer my time towards programming

i've been here awhile and i like the community, and its going 2 die if we don't do something

It'll be nice if we could get a response from Fldash. I know he's retired, but a word would be nice.

I really wish Fldash would release the code. I know he's done alot of work and this is his baby and what not which is fine but he should at least release the code so others can work on it.

i c two possibilities 4 development

primary app-based: everything is done by a downloaded uber launcher

PROS

easy to use once installed
everything is in one place
trivial to install and start eir battles
no worries about compatibility among components
sleeker and good advertising point

CONS

putting in a battle map could be hard
long 2 develop
users must dl larger application and install it b4 they can play

web-based:

PROS
use premade eir components (phil willing)
anyone can browse and check it out
forum access included
flash!

CONS
hard to get battle files into the computer
things in different places

personally i like the first option much better, but the 2nd could b made to work as well if a custom browser extension could be made to automate downloading and unzipping

thats why i say fuck the website

and fuck php, i hate that language

like u said, this would b effectively rewriting EIR from stratch

why bother w/ php when we could use a better language

but then again, that is only if we want to use a launcher as the base for the launcher,  if ur going 4 the HTML approach again, then yeah... got to get into php hell

i guess but primary app base would be ok....but then again it just brings up how you would streamline making your companies on an app...and they would still need a database connection...

indeed, but its easier to find free hosting for a database and a basic script to allow access// keep out punks and process everything client side than to put the burden on the server imo.

i think the phil solution is good and even easy to make in an app

ok...sounds like a good idea...i fail at making apps so go ahead..i guess you could just use the site like a forum/rank, leaderboard reporting...

If TLS fulfills it's potential, it will be all the 2.0 I need. Well, aside from the new factions, anyway.

Why are people so adament on saying '' The mod is dying '' like some Doom Cult mantra ? Since I started I've seen lots of people on Vent and new people too, not to mention Games fill up a lot faster compared to when I first started. So wheres the point of reference to say Its all going tits up ? Why not just look forward to expansions and ideas added on rather than walk about all morbid and saying it's all going to hell when it clearly isn't.

Good luck with the Project Salan & Others, I'm looking forward to it.

Salan is doing his best to give the mod some more zest.  I think this will help, aleast temporaily.  Just relax and stop talking about the doom of the community.

The community leaders are doing the best they can.  If you have an idea, take it up with Salan or one of the other guys.  Everyone working together would keep the mod alive for quite some time.
