If you goto Wikipedia and search for freeware, they have published a list--with links--to freeware games.  Some of them are very good, such as, Combat Arms, Secret Maryo Chronicles, Fear Combat, etc.

Yes, it's a freeware version of Super Mario Brothers, with enhanced graphics, customization, and level editor.  From the Secret Maryo Chronicles website: "Secret Maryo Chronicles is an Open Source two-dimensional platform game with a style designed similar to classic sidescroller games.
