***Fresh from the pages of Der Sturmen*** (propaganda newspaper translated from German)
A glorious triumph for the fatherland was scored today just outside the town of Nuenen, one that shall echo for all eternity! Even now the flames from the wreckage tower high into the air, and the last rumbles of battle and pockets of gunfire are all but echoing further into the distance.
Fresh from their victory this morning just miles outside Carentan, and bolstered with confidence, the 82nd Airbourne under General Groundfire and the First Armored Battalion under General O4B swept into the outskirts of Nuenen with speed and firepower, but what they found was chaos.
A surprise encounter on the road between their lead recon elements and the motorized vanguard of the 7th Panzer "Ghost Division" precipitated a furious maelstrom of fighting over the small hamlet. Little did they know the storm was but the beggining of an extended battle that would cost them dearly, as the crack Wehr division of Pak88mm and the 7th Panzer division under WindCriesMary had targeted their armies for destruction. Reeling from the earlier setback of the day at Carentan, the 7th Panzer Division was particularily eager for vengeance for their lost brothers.
Particularily tragic were the horrendous losses of life amongst the veteren elite of the belaugered Allied divisions. Entire squads of elite airborne and whole columns of veteren ace tank destroyers were amongst those lost and missing, cut down with ruthless malevolence and precision. The cost in terms of these brave soldiers is as of yet too great to surmise, however it is certain their destruction has been a tremendous blow to the morale and fighting capability of the battered allied armies. Truly now they shall think very carefully before engaging the power of German steel once more!
On the other side of the battle lines, the mood amongst the German ranks is one of triumph and grim but certain celebration. Field decorations have already been awarded to several units on the account of oustanding bravery, in particular that of a newly promoted Panther ace for his ruthless hunting of allied tanks. When the smoke cleared, and with the terrified americans in utter rout, no fewer than 5 tanks lay smoldering in ruin from it's power. With such brave warriors on our front lines equipped with such fearsome tank predators, surely the puny americans stand no chance!
Behold the might of the Fatherland, and let this day stand as a lesson to all who would dare challenge it.
