I already have a ati radion x600. I don't have vista. I have 100 dollars so I am trying to mow lawns and do some other things to get something better. The one I was planning on getting is ati radion x1650.

I have a lower version and mine is very close to the high settings and there is no lag. Maybe I should look for a geforce card.

I have a Nvidia 8800 GTS. You can get one for around 300-400 dollars and it'll last you for a fairly long while. It's also designed for Vista, so if you decided to buy Vista, you'll have DX10 graphic bonuses.

You not going vista, and have only near 10 bucks, get a 7800 or 7900 from geforce.

Do you have to have Vista to use DX10?

yeah.
i'm using a 8800 GTS 320mb. You can't run COH at Ultra settings since the card doesnt have enough memory, but otherwise it looks great.
if you want a DX9 card I have heard nothing but good things about the X1950. That card is also the last gasp of AGP, if your mobo doesnt have PCI-E

@DeadlyShoe, Does Ultra settings require at least 512mb of memory? I know I am considering upgrading to he 8800 GTS 640mb depending on the salary of my new job. @Stranger, for video card reviews, I recommend checking Anandtech they have good testing methods and fairly objective reviews. For pricing try their Real-Time Price Engine for good comparison shopping. However, you also need to keep the rest of your system in mind. A good video card is certainly the most important factor in game graphics, but the general state of your operating system, your CPU, and RAM can all play an important factor. You should also verify that you have a power supply with sufficient juice to support a more power-hungry card.

I use the 8800 GTS 640MB, Core 2 Duo E6600, and have 4GB DDR 800 and I still can't run Ultra. Of course, I can't stand game slow downs regardless of the amount of action, so I normally always adjust my settings down from where I could possibly run them...

Wow. Then what does Ultra require? A system not yet invented?

I have the GTX and could run ultra if I wanted to but I set all my settings to lowest anyway. That's how much I care about graphics...

No, Ultra settings require the Nvidia 8800 Ultra. I bet 20 bucks they named that card just for CoH settings.
