I want to know how you guys would feel about maybe getting rid of the "level up" system altogether. Players would have all doctrine choices and unlocks available from the get-go, but would still need to earn PPs after every game to pay for them. So basically the way it would seem is that each player would all start out in a level 9 scenario, but not actually have 200+ PPs from the start or any number displayed after his/her name.
Why?
1) It just seems a little silly since we all start out at 5 anyways. I know that we're given the PPs and the level to prevent the grind of leveling up, but we're already working on ways to counter that.
2) It prevents people from wanting to dodge based on levels.
3) Another cool advantage to the player is that each player will not know if their opponent has "level 5 or whatever" unlocks in their company. To go along with this idea, maybe the number of games played should be erased as well. We've already deleted the win-loss ratio, and we have the leaderboard for people who might feel like checking someone's company.
Just think of this whole idea as similar to the "campaign game" button, except players will know who they are playing with.

Understood, but it seems odd to even have the levels at all. Why have them when you can just have PPs? What's the point in "leveling up?"

We're planning to rename levels to 'tech levels' with the implementation of the warmap, since that's a better representation of what they will be. (I.e not an individual commander level but the 'tech level' of your faction or the commander's batallion)
