I might have a friend joining but otherwise I think we need 1-3 more.

I think my SlowBros joined the right league. My understanding is that by being in this one, it will be eligible for the closed seasons as well. So we can only submit 1 team per season, but can have a couple sitting ready in the open league?

This is correct.
It just keeps people from farming games in the normal BB leagues or against buddies without it being easily spotted.
Basically, I can track games in the Open league and see who is playing who, and who is winning by how much. So no farming XP.
1 team per season yes.

I've got a few people joining as well, might get to 8 for the season.
I've got all new teams too, I assume you already know about caging and all that.
bbtactics.com can be a life saver.

Though I must add there should be no forfeits during tourney play. People need to play it out and not quit on turn 1.
Also take into account my work schedule I'm unavailable for play between Wed-Saturday
