What is the toggle off-map retreat button for? I think I have left it off for all my games, but I don't know what it does. I've read the description for it but I still don't get it. Can someone please explain it to me.

when you want to get a unit off map, but don't want (or can't, as for vehicles) click the retreat button.

Allows you to pull your troops off-map manually.
It's basically there for tanks/vehicles & other units that don't have a retreat button.

the toggle button is for units that are to close to your spwan to auto retreat.  Also, you need to use it to take tanks and halftracks off map.  you just manually drive them back to your spawn, and click the button.  If you ever forget where your spawn is, double click the tabs that you use to toggle through your call ins and it will force focus on your spawn.

You can also off-map retreat to an ally's spawn.

You can also off-map retreat to an ally's spawn.

and i was about to ask what good is it for units that DO have a retreat button.

My available companies:
Allies:
*AB company going for raid assault
  Infantry going for tank reapers
Axis:
*Defensive going for rocket artillery
  Blitz going for lightning war
And an experimental Terror company going for subversion consisting of all volks and two King Tigers

its not really that great for units that already have a retreat button (like rifles for example)

unless you want to choose your escape route yourself (like say, if there are enemies along the default escape route)

You also have to remember that if you are standing too close to your retreat zone, you can't actually retreat.  you need to walk away first.
(important to know if anyone brings Pios on the field just to deploy goliaths, or something like that)

No you don't. Just smack the toggle (Y) instead of hitting T.
