Sorry DBsights, while I respect you as a member of this community, we're talking about 2 volks versus a .30 cal, not "anything else in the vicinity".

Will you let AmPM answer the question instead?

A well placed .30cal will suppress and kill 2 Volks that try and rush it, in fact its more effective in this role than a MG42 vs 2 Rifles if you say they are coming from 2 directions. The .30 deals more damage faster, and still suppresses just fine.

2 Volks straight at HMG, dead Volks
2 Volks flanking HMG, dead HMG
2 Rifles straight at HMG dead Rifles
2 Rifles Flanking HMG, dead HMG

See a pattern?

I see a pattern.

Flanking is a good thing, no matter what unit you use.

Let's up the ante just a tad though.

Do you think 3 volks can take a .30 cal head on?

Am I just a bitter fanboy, disgusted with the ease of the Axis and the difficulty of the Allies?

Is it weird that I go on my Axis account to noobstomp, but I hide in the launcher and on vent when someone asks for Allied players?

All because my MG was overrun by a blob?

Bump, is there an updated version yet?

No updates because no one has any suggestions for corrections.

My available companies:
Allies:
*AB company going for raid assault
  Infantry going for tank reapers
Axis:
*Defensive going for rocket artillery
  Blitz going for lightning war
And an experimental Terror company going for subversion consisting of all volks and two King Tigers

3 volks / grens in heavy cover can kill an HMG if they get lucky shots and kill it b4 it can suppress them.  Once suppression kicks in, then they are toasted.

I have never, ever seen any of these scenairos occur before.

Usually if you try a flanking maneuver the enemy has plenty more troops that are occupied nearby, therefore limiting the arc of travel whereby your volks will charge the .30 cal. This essentially means they'll be in the line of sight of the 30 cal, and one of the squads is going to be open to attack, followed by suppression.

You end up losing at least 30% of your soldiers to kill 3 soldiers (or less, it only takes 1 to use a machine gun).

What I meant was it is preferrable to use a tank or bomb it to all hell via artillery/motars/webelwuffers/walking stukas, rather than soft, squishy infantry.

Not to mention a .30 can run off light vehicles, an MG42 cannot.

The MG42 actually puts up a fight against an M8 without skirts.

The more you know.

It tries, if you put your rear facing it and sit inside its range....

Come again?

MG42 range = 45, M8 range = 40

And no, it doesn't need rear shots either.

Have you seen how poorly an MG42 holds up to an M8 at long range? Its sad and takes forever even should it be at close range with rear armor facing. A .30 tears through light armor in seconds with AP rounds.

As we have had the .30 vs MG42 arguement many many times, I'll point out again that they serve completely different roles. One is for suppression, the other is actually kill things quickly.
