Did anyone who got this game actually enjoy it? I mean did anyone actually have fun with it after the "new game smell" wore off?

I laughed out loud when I read in the Diablo thread that someone threw hellgate london right into the trash bin. I didn't have the heart to do that simply because I spent $60 on the damned thing. Worst game purchase I've made since I bought the Power Rangers game for Super Nintendo, the game wasn't bad, but I beat it in a day (keep in mind I was in 3rd grade) and there was no replay value at all.

Really? I liked it in the Beta, I thought they could have done alot of things differently to make it better but I liked the way things were in it.

I bought it, actually still have it installed on my computer (mostly because I keep forgetting about it).  Heres the thing, the game had HUGE potential, but they fucked that up when they made each and every level have the same tileset with a few changes, and the same monsters over and over.  If it would have been different tilesets and more variety of monsters it would have been great.  Also getting into groups should have been made alot better.  It was just hugely buggy when it was first released and I know alot of those bugs have been fixed recently (havent played it since though) it just wasnt executed properly.

Hellgate focuses on bringing back that old diablo feeling, which it fails at.
It should strenghthen it's specialties, like egoperspective, by bringing a more direct controll.
I would like no aiming help at all and features like actual reload.
It sucks that if you stand on top of a bus monsters beneath you can still reach you, while you can't aim.
And those stupid lags even in singleplayer (teleporting monsters and stuff) didn't make it easier.
Too small and boring levels give the game the rest.

Yeah seriously, I mostly stopped playing out of sheer boredom. I mean a game is supposed to be something you do when you are bored! But every level in every spot you go to looks the EXACT same. There is the tunnels underground. The military looking base underground. The city streets. The museum. And that's pretty much it. I could put together better land scape and I barely know how to use 3D max.
