I didn't find the letter funny at all actually. Because I can clearly identify it as a fake; Reason being; a 94 Year Old Australian wouldn't be spelling things in the American version of English.
who cares about accuracy, its still funny, even if it's an american who's 30.

Considering the letter states that it happened in QUEENSLAND which is a state in AUSTRALIA, I would say it's Australian, and it wouldn't matter if he was british or Australia; both spell the same words pretty much the same way.
