When looking around on Gamereplays for a tutorial on NIS i found a post concerning this contest:
http://www.gameflood.com/Index.cfm/Mod/Contest/stgAct/ContestLanding
I know that both the contest and the persistancy patch will occur around the same time. So maybe the devs here should give it a try, you can't lose anything so why not? Anyways you got my vote Smiley

Yeah we've seen this, I think fl-s gonna enter us. We're not too hopeful though, since it's public voting that decides the winner. Regardless of the quality of EiR there's simply more popular mods out there.

even if you guys don't win, think of it as free advertising, you will be in the voting options, so there's probably gonna be quite a few people that are gonna check the mod out...

It's true. Besides, once this mod grows large enough people will see the true beauty behind it. I already cannot revert to plain vanilla gameplay: it makes me sick.  And I've only been around since the first public beta!

As it stands, though, the mod is not really a "mod" as most people see it.

In other mods, people make new maps, new models, new animations, new textures, new sounds, and sometimes entirely new stories.  I know it's taken alot of work making what we have now, but does it really add up to something as profressional looking as what other modding projects are?

Other mods just change stats and skins at this point, thats no where near as impressive as what we will be doing.

Don't get me wrong, there's some pretty promising mods out there as well but without a proper object animator and model tool they're still far off from introducing new vehicles and models to CoH.

It's also likely that EiR will introduce new skins and units eventually....
Not to mention that we are bound to have a large scale mapping project just as well.

Well since you put it that way...  Cheesy Grin

By the way, I'm going to be tinkering with the map editor, so I hope to be a part of this large scale mapping project.

I may be biased, but I think EiR is a very impressive mod (if not yet, then it will become one). We do the word "modification" more justice than any other CoH team out there because we are overhauling so much of the game's basic mechanics, rather than adding to what is already there. No disrespect to other mods.

Once the major development phases are through, EiR will become more "professional" too.

Europe in ruins is indeed impressive not by how nice its skins are, but by how extensive the modification of gameplay is. When the warmap is complete, the mod will spawn a persistent community. Each battle will be different, and strategy will not only be important in an ingame sense, but in the total theatre of war as well. It is important to remember that once you finish a battle in say, kmod, you will be done. In Europe in ruins you will have contributed to the defense or capture of a sector in the conflict. For the first time, Company of Heroes doesn't just end ingame, it ends at the enemy's capital/HQ sector.

As for maps, Unkn0wn and I are just in an idle phase. Working together (back when we were both occupied with school related issues) we managed to get significant amounts of work done in days. We have plans to create a chain of mapping, like a "map assembly line" which requires mappers to be specialized in a certain area. For example, you may be responsible for setting the ground work, while another person may be required to put in splats and splines, and another will need to do detailed object work. We'll iron out the kinks in the process when we kick it into gear shortly after 1.7's release. Stick around, custom content is not impossible for this mod. What we don't want to do is mess with vanilla unit stats too much. Although I do recommend we use the axis realism skins that halftrack and etc. have created.
