Valve's Steam distribution platform changes currency to euros for the European region, but operates on a 1 USD = 1 EURO pricing scheme. Today's actual rate is 1 EURO = 1.46 USD. Depending on local exchange rates this means hiking prices by 20 to 50 %!

From now on the prices of steam are in euros, that means what before used to be 50 $ now is 50 euros, where is the advantage to buy a game (not a game a download) from steam if it costs the same as the original game.
Epic shame. I am starting to think to abandon steam and buy games on my own.  Angry

steam lost many customers with this cheap trick.

lol Akranadas?

If I who lives in Sweden buys the game for 50 evro
Then the one in US still needs to pay me 50 Evro (Or like 60 us dollar)

The problem is when they made:

Halflife 2 =10 $ to 10 €
Empire: Total war: 50 $ to 50€

They made all $ two €
They are not making that one $ is worth 1 € when you buy

No, Duck. I don't think you understand.

They purchase Empire: Total war for $50 US dollars, and gift it to your steam account. You then transfer them $37.91 EUROs which is equal to $50 US.

They (valve/steam/others) are making more money off of users by saying U$ = Euro, they aren't losing money. However; You are exploiting the system if you do the gift way.

You have just encountered a store.

This store have a that price on their wares.

You can buy ore not buy.

It's the game companies who set the prices.

So why do steam get blamed?

Right so if you live in us you get the price is $ if you live in Euro you get the price in €.

So why not just change where you live to us? (Tryed, it dose not work)

Yeah, so you'll be paying actually $65.94USD at 50EURO rather than the proper exchange rate of $37.91USD

Guderian, maybe because steam doesn't give you a copy of the game, it unlocks it on your account, no physical game, manual, property, you lose the account, you lose the game. Steam goes bankrupt you lose the game, steam doesn't like you anymore, you lose the game. You acutally pay for a digital game the same as for the physical one... Or even more if you aren't a u.s. citizen.......

Impulse > Steam, I'll be buying all my digital games there from now on.
(Not that I buy many games nowadays, but still)

www.Impulsedriven.com

They have outstanding customer support as well, one of their admins was active on the forums the other day facilitating the TOV launch.

Stardock for the win. Fuck Steam.

Yes, thats what I did. You just have to install patch 2.500 and 2.501.

It's really nice and easy, didn't even have to install or download anything from impulse, just enter the cd key they give you.

I don't know how it works when you have steam, would suck if you bought TOV on steam.

Impulse will never > Steam - You're entitled to your opinions and rage about either one, but in this world of business, Impulse won't win.

Stardock purely don't offer anywhere near the amount of support Valve does. Also, 100% of games on Impulse Don't require Impulse to run which is the biggest problem they have, you don't have to launch from Impulse - anything. Steam on the other hand has quite a damn few games that use Steam servers - not just Valve games. You're basically forced to log onto the main page of Steam and look at what you can buy.

And personally - I'm boycotting Stardock because they make shitty games and are currently helping develop Demigod(Worst move by Chris Taylor ever) which would be a good game except for that simple fact. Because Stardock supporters play Stardock games and any competitive player going into this Stardock community are completely fucked as the game - while could've been great, is toned down to appeal to non-competitive users. I bought TOV from the store, installed it in order to play right away.  I let steam update the other games to 2.501 or what ever, and once my relic account had the TOV registered to it.  I uninstalled TOV and now I just ply it through steam using the Opposing fronts launcher.

Steam dosn't care about TOV or OF or the original.  Thats all under relic online.  if relic online thinks you own TOV then you own TOV.

On a side note I've use impulsed too.  To me it dosn't seem to make any more sence than steam.  It (impulse) doesn't have a way to chat with your freinds in game, it doesn't have an ingame web browser, it doesn't have a built in voice chat, it dosn't have a cool way of looking at your acheivements ( not a big thing but still), steam is a little more than an online store.  That you can keep downloading things through.

And personaly, while I'm sure impulse is doing alright, steams-valve is a bigger company with several differant ways of makeing their money.

Stardock makes the occasional game, and a bunch of little programs for organizeing your descktop.

Whatever, If impuls ever has something I want, I'll go there.

In the world of business a company that can sell you games cheaper than their competitors is a company that will win.

I like steam and all but after charging the amount they did for L4D and implementing the 1 EUR = 1 $ policy they lost a lot of my respect so I am looking to other places to buy games. Valve still makes great games but their online store is now officially shit, they've lowered themselves to EA standards.

You can look at it from the other perspective as well, as a consumer I find this a big +.

But....If America invades and takes over Europe, that would mean that we can control their currency,so if make the euro in to dollars that would mean that we don't have to have euros=dollars in Steam, thus using the theory of relativity, applying Gregor Mendel's equation and using the COSINE square minus the something something something, we don't have to pay in euros to buy Steam games which is nice for America and American Europe....or Eurica
