They're expendable, and they usually do their job regardless of vet level.

if you play conservative with most squads you can vet them up easily.  Remember to retreat your inf when there's 2 left for squads of 5 and 6 and maybe even 4 (depends on the health bar) and you'll usually get them away with heaps of xp instead of fighting and maybe getting 3 or 4 more hits on the enemy, which face it, is much less useful.

as far as AT go, if AT infantry kill tanks, make sure they are protected and get retreated.  That's like 10-13 xp there or almost a vet level.  Remember some tanks can kill 2 inf with 1 shot, a tank yesterday killed 3 vet3 stormies in 1 shot but that was sheer luck.

Tanks are harder to vet up unless you retreat them after they get a couple of kills, which you usually dont because you've invested so much out there and only a few things the enemy has can destroy them.  Also engine damage and the fact you have to drive it back make is less retreatable.

A few tips now:

British Stuart Light tank -> Cannister round a 2 squad blob or more then retreat.  If you do this twice or 3 times, youll get a vet2 stuart.  A vet2 stuart gets 2 cannister rounds, so it's twice as good effectively.

Cromwells -> Flank speed in and out of battles, since it lasts 30 seconds or something big you have the time to get out, and try to make the enemy hit your command tank when retreating, after all it is a damage soaker really.

Marders -> retreat if you can.  Usually PE armys have tonnes of AT, and especially if youve got 4 marders there's no point of making them die if they've killed a tank (which almost automatically Vet1s them).

Other tanks that are single purpose are generally easier to save, or else things such as panthers and jagdpanthers which look twice as scary when they've vetted up.
