yes the calliope is great. the best? hmm I'd still vote nebel for that one. It serves 3 large roles. 1)Scouting. It reveals anything it touches. and it has a large AoE you can see everything in the vicinity of a nebel strike and thats great as an impromptu scouting ability. 2)Refire. With a cooldown of 2 mins and less with abilities and veterancy, this thing can launch a good 15-20 salvos in a normal game when kept alive by a good player. 3)Suppression. Sure it doesn;t damage tanks but it's 7 pop, you can still field an ATG. and when it hits, it hurts. Every infantry unit in the area will be in suppression if not pinned by the time it stops firing.

The nebel should be a terror exclusive weapon and the stuka should be the free form unit. Then the Geschutz could go over to defensive(where it belongs!) The Stuka IS worse then the nebel but it serves a different purpose and it's flavour would fit better with Blitz(it would still be available to terror and defensive)

precision strike should be all the arty Blitzkrieg get.  After all, Armour Doctrine gets nothing, Royal Engineers get nothing and Tankbusters get nothing.

We are talking about ON MAP ARTILLERY. Armot gets the cali (best on map artillery!!!), tankbusters get hotchkiss, Engineers get nothing (if anything RE needs the offmap choices like brn4meplz says).

Blitz already has the Nebel. I’m suggesting to give them the Stuka instead. How can that be considered OP when everyone agrees that the Nebel is bette? I suggested removing the Nebel from Blitz at the same time!!!

Calli is vastly overrated and you know it.  Just last game we had elitegren killed a vet 3 calli sitting in spawn fairly easilly.  Honestly for the tremendous fuel cost of a calli in a doctrine geared towards tanks, its not worth getting a calli over 2 shermans at all.  I'd MUCH rather have the fuel used towards shermans or a pershing.

You can't really move the stuka to blitz because defensive has all the stuka buffs, and has had them historically as well.

EDIT: I like burn's suggestion.

That’s just another case of off map artillery ruining the on map artillery but that’s another discussion.

Historically is not at reason not to change it…There's 2 crappy T2s in Blitz that no one in his right mind would choose. The buffs could easily be moved (then there would also be no stacking with officer)

EDIT: I like burn's suggestion.

Ideally it would be:
Blitz: Stuka
Terror: Nebel
Defensive: Axis howitzer from ToV campaign

Note: And throw a bone to Royal Engineers…

Well you could make the Nebel terror exclusive and still give it as an unlock for picking the Defensive Tier 2 that reduces recycle timers. Theres no need to make the 88 an artillery unit when those unit types are in place already

Man, the direct-fire 88 is already a tough nut as it is. †

Edit: The Axis howitzer form the ToV campaign could also be used for Defensive
Again it would differentiate the doctrines even more.

are you having that hard of a time winning that a stuka would make the difference so you'd be undefeated?

Every PE doctrine Gets Hotchkiss Stuka.  Armour may get the calliope, but engineers get nothing anyway, and Tankbusters also get nothing.  So i wouldn't complain, at least you actually have offmaps which are useful.  Stuka is better at survivability and damage than the nebel, all the nebel can do is supress the enemy and annoy their infantry.

Í like Artillery what Axis field but I do not agree on most cases said here.

Stuka is a fairly inaccurate at times and doesn't Insta rape Machinegun in a 1 Salvo no matter how well it hits. Its supression is weak and only does damage in a Direct hit (and even if it does from a direct hit does not always kill things)

In my opinnion Stuka isn't a suggestable Artillery unit for  destroying, more likely harasing and damaging infantry and buildings where the Nebel does all the killing and supressions. Blob's direct hit with Stuka ain't as bad as it is with a nebel.

Maybe I've had bad luck with Stukas since I've not managed to score a lot of kills anymore with them. Nebel has managed to do far more these days.

I made a short video about the light field howiter if anyone wants to see how it performs.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yU1HKZTBEXE

It's in the game already, so it's not a really a "new" unit.

Seems very accurate and very high splash for a "light" howitzer Tongue.
