For your "hip-hop-ish" needs, there's always our friend Ronald Jenkees. With the goofy attitude and appearance but nice beats what's not to like, I suppose. Trawl through a few of his pieces, probably has at least one that fits the kind of song make-up you're looking for. The best one I can think of for the kind of genre you're going for from him is probably his Halloween theme remix. Got some nice beat to it and it's a fairly recognizable track. Helps if you liked the movie. Available as a free mp3, too. None of that bittorrent hassle.

Also shame on you for linking to Tiesto. Definitely not a great composer of electronica. Good DJ, but that's really not the same. If you want some actual stuff get some Armin Van Buuren or some Alphazone, maybe some Benny Benassi for the sick bass automation. Cosmic Gate, some of Juno Reactor's tracks, Virus Inc., Clokx, Warp Brothers, Voodoo and Serenno, John O'Callaghan, some of Darude's older tracks... I could go on and on about better composers than Tiesto all day  Tongue

Also, Alestorm has some good metal for your metal CD. Some bad metal, too, but mostly good. Though my tastes are more on the melodic side of metal than on the "I can't understand the vocalist and the notes are no longer even in harmony anymore" side.

EDIT - And no CD is complete without this.

EiRRMod, if you like Deadmau5 and want some kinda hip hop ish sounds (which you do) I can render you out a track that came with FL Studio 9 of his that fits the bill pretty nicely. Any quality you want in basically any format you want. Nice free legal music... for you, anyway.

Because death metal is difficult to distinguish from white noise, that is why.

No it's because I literally cannot distinguish it from white noise. It is often so overloaded with power chords to help counteract the amp distortion that the power chords begin to become insufficient at keeping it from becoming cluttered random noise. "Heavy metal" is a genre that is very, very easily able to (and often does) slip out of "music" and into "noise" because of a lack of structure such as melody, harmony, and other various musical components. It ceases to be a coherent piece of music and begins to become "HEY THIS SOUNDS COOL ON ITS OWN, I'M GONNA LAYER IT WITH EIGHT OTHER THINGS THAT SOUND COOL ON THEIR OWN TOO AND IT'LL SOUND COOL TOGETHER RIGHT GUYS!?"

And then there's singers whose words I cannot actually understand, thereby defeating the purpose of singing words.

I prefer my music to actually be music, not every note on the guitar played simultaneously and fed through a dirty distortion amp. Although the drum parts are often quite good from what I've heard.

I was looking at this thread wondering how to put into words what you have described wonderfully. I know it's all preference tho. to each his own.

btw, Malgoroth, whenever I see you post i get this mental image of Nathan from Metalocolypse.

There's no accounting for taste, I just happen to believe (for obvious reasons) that my own taste is the "right" one  Cheesy

I'd say I'm more like Toki. Minus the poop mustache and long hair.

But yes... agree to disagree. I'll keep my Satanic gurgling, sludgy, hell-noise and you can keep your... *ahem* "music"
BTW, Metal isn't my primary genre. It's just awesome. Mainly I listen to indie and alternative.

IMO black metal is about as heavy as you can go without making your ears bleed through awful vocals. Power metal is still the way forward

"Satantic gurgling" and "hell" have nothing to do with my dislike of heavier metal, it's mostly just that it doesn't sound good anymore. The vocalist's techniques sound really poor, the melody is often very muddied behind way too much "chord-spam"... "Sludgey noise" is a lot closer to what I think :p

I mean I like some kinds of metal. Power metal is usually pretty good (because it puts a very heavy focus on the lead giving it more structure), progressive and orchestral metal are both good as well, it's just the really "hardcore" metal I'm not big on.
