To those who love Company of Heroes and missed the chance before, Steam will be hosting the public beta of RUSE today, March 9th!  So if you want to try it, preload it today on Steam (no preorder or anything necessary) and it should unlock later today and we can all try it out again.

That and EIRR are going to be my top two favorite WW2 games for the year, at least until Relic releases the Russians... or COH2, whichever comes first  Grin

Just out of curiosity, did you know there's a fairly huge Russian mod for CoH already called Eastern Front with a good playerbase?

I don't like it since I hate vanilla gameplay, but if you're waiting for Russians it should be perfect... Not balanced, but better balance than what Relic would come up with.

I loved it myself, its like COH on a massive operational scale with very good attention to detail, strategic 'ruses/plans' and many factions with a huge variety of units and buildings.

Not to mention, infantry combat and cover work really well, unlike say... World in Conflict which sucked much for infantry players... and I was ranked 3 in the world in that game, heh.

The game seemed very gay and boring to me. There was no proper micro involved in it(cover especially non-existant), and games generally degraded into spamming a bigger army or stacking up 7 ruse cards to hide a huge armada of planes insta-gibbing the enemy HQ if the initial airborne rush didn't work...

It's just an obsolete style of RTS for me, I guess - EiRR's way of taking it has just spoilt me.

EIRR ruins your view of other RTS games. I wish a company would do like Dice did with Bad company 2 and rip off EIRR and make an actual game out of it.

Oh and if u dont know what im talkin about, Rush = Rip off of Project Reality

R.U.S.E. is quite enjoyable when you don't want to micro and play against some friends. I hardly believe that I will buy it when it is released though.

Edit: It feels abit (quite obviously) like Risk or Axis & Allies, or that kind of board game.

Just is pretty fun. I like the scale of the battlefield, and the fact that you can build planes. <3 Bombers

Neat concept, but seems to be just the wrong cross of simple and complex to me.

EiR not ruin my view of rts and strategies. A love SC:FA (big scale battle), i like world in conflict (for teamwork in multyplayer), a love CoH (for its battlefield tactic simulation), i love Combat Missions (for hardcore historical tactical simulation). But RUSE is a mutant, Rise of nations, PanzerGeneral (turnbased ancient strategy lol), and Lord of Realms 3. They trying to combinate tactical level and strategic level in rts and we got poor tactical, and poor strategic level. Game for 2 days.
P.S. Forget about stupied grafic and pictures style, designed for childrens. I was killed by "Pushka 76mm" and "Shturmovic". So correct hicstorical unit names lol ("pushka" - just a gun from rus, ZIS3 was its model; "shturmovik" - atack plane, instead of "il2").

Cover is huge in the game Mys, that's what I love about it, and there are things that can easily counter bombers, just cause you use a ruse card doesn't hide them from proper recon and scouting,  and fighters instantly break bombers if they try to enmass you, and AA was toned up to deal with it too (and especially hidden AA, nasty stuff).

And it's not about the biggest stack, its about the best combined arms approach.  We had 3 IS3s backed up by 4 quads wipe the floor with a stack of cromwells and mass anti-air support while I was pushing up Shermans and rangers to support from the rear (as well as 2 of those russian rocket trucks, can't spell their name and I had 2 155mm Long Toms for long range indirect support).

Cities are one of the best and hardest areas for enemies to take due to the fact that only airborne recon have a chance to spot into it (urban environments block ground recon LOS).

If anyone relies on arty or planes, they'll get punished hardcore if you think that's how all games end.  They're great support units and can really change the tide of battle, but are easily countered by any sort of AA or fighter cover.  There is some mico involved in spreading forces out into smaller 'stacks' (ie groups) unless you want to put everything on top of each other where a single bombing run wipes everything out, you could go ahead and do that.

Definitely still a must buy for me, a lot of improvements made since the closed beta and just love it.

EDIT: And I think there is the right amount of strategic and tactical level detail going on. Tanks don't die in one hit (infantry generally does from artillery or if a bunch of tanks open up all their machine guns and main guns on the squads).  Heavy tanks like Pershings and Churchills are worth their weight in gold due to their armor and health but can be overrun by many cheaper units like hotchkisses and shermans.  Add to that there is morale in the game where you can break the enemy (my last game with a bunch of the guys we had 3 IS3s ambushed by 14 cromwells with light air support, broke all the IS3s and destroyed two of them.  Had to cover the retreating IS3 with rangers against the last pockets of cromwells and ended up winning the game with that one IS3 leading an assault to their base through a chokepoint, heh)

It is okish.

I usually go german with a Inf/AA/Arty mix and when I am bored I start throwing in tanks (best Maus with Wirbelwind and a few pumas).

As german you have a huge advantage with bottlenecks for 20mm and 88mm AA units with inf support to stop enemy air and armour pushes. Then your arty starts pounding him into submission.

Though I feel it is lacking macro.

I got to play for about 20 minutes before my computer overheated and the powersupply fried lol. Hadn't realized one of my fans was blocked out by debri =/  Fortunately my old comp works. Game looks damn good to me, the whole ruse concept seems like it would make for a lot of mind games while playing human opponents. Lookin forward to getting a chance to play more.

Personally I love it, the only real flaw I see with it is the lack of a decent counter for artillery spam.
