Ok as the title says....what spec pc are you likely to require in order to run 4v4's  Huh I can run 3v3's fine with no lag with my hamster, but i tend to lag 4v4's too much to able to play them. And since i finish unversity next month (final year) and i have a job to go to in histopathology, i will have some pennies (not many just a few) to give my hamster a few implants. I am willing to spend around £400 on a new CPU/Graphix card. My mobo can take upto a core2quad, single PCIe, 4 Gig DDR2 800Mhz.

My set up now -
Pentium D 3Ghz
2 Gig DDR2 667Mhz
Nvidia 8500 GT (pile of shite)
Windows XP

What i have been looking at -
Core 2 Quad Q9400
ATI HD4890

Dunno if i should uprgarde ram, OS etc, I dont play games much, so I dont really need a full on gaming rig tbh, but it would still be nice to have the choice.

Any suggestions of what to spend my pence on are welcome

Thanx in advance

All settings on lowest possible, reboot before playing helps a lot.

Get the processor while your at it. CoH was designed to run off of multi core CPUs. You can pick up a core2 duo 2.6Ghz for around $70 now, and that will work for CoH. (what's that, like 50 Euro?) But if your upgrading, go big. saves you money later tbh.

Just get a hd4770/hd5770 and you'll be fine.

Although that micro is crap tbh.

Don't buy a super high end card and processor - you'll just fry your PSU. First make sure the power supply can take it.

If you just want to upgrade yourself to be able to run 4v4s - buy a cheap GeForce 9600 GT. It'll be more than enough to make it go smooth.

And you should try programs like Gamebooster or such, they close some of the non-important processes while you play, and after you have finished, you can turn em back on with a click ^^

I think that this method only works when you are having issues with memory

Thanks for the help guys.

Rocksitter i ran the "can you run it" thing and the pc passes all the tests, suggesting that i should be running this pretty well. Yet i still have to run the game on the lowest settings and lag 4v4's. I have no viruses/spyware either, and have since done a full defrag. It was suggested to me that i may have an overheating problem with the cpu, so im going to get the cooler off clean it up and reset the sink to see if it makes any difference.

you forget that in 2v2s you only have to send your information to 3 others, and that times 4 people=12, in 4v4s that 7 others, and that x8 again = 56.
its much laggier mostly coz of that, also a bit coz of bigger maps.

Thanx for the help guys i just picked up an 8800GT for £46 bucks from eatbay, i checked the forums before i bought it and it kicks the ass out of the 8500GT that i have at the moment (i paid more for the 8500GT when i bought it, food for thought), i also picked up a new heatsink for my cpu this morning from the local geek shop. It should be with me some time next week so ill be getting stomped in 4v4's in no time hoprefully Grin

I've got a 500W PSU, the min recommended is 400W for the card (its a leadtek card so i had a look at their website), if the PSU isnt man enough i will just go and buy one that is.

Like most of the problems in life if you throw enough money at them they soon go away, just have to try and throw as little as possible Wink

A full upgrade can wait until i have been working for a few months.
