Help!
«

I installed my dual core processor and new heatsink today, no problems occured but since windows (XP) wasn't detecting the dual cores I tried updating my BIOS (hadn't updated them since I got the pc about 5 years ago), I was told that was probably necessary for the AMD 939 socket motherboard.
So yeah, formatted floppy disk to which it installed the flash and recovery files and then rebooted. It flashed without errors but upon trying to load windows again after the update it keeps resetting itself, there's a very brief bluescreen before it does. my motherboard is not damaged I assume, POST works) I'm clueless as to how I can resolve this.. :x
My motherboard has a CMOS button, should I press it to try and restore or are there any other less drastic ways?
Hope I can fix this... I guess I shouldn't have touched BIOS heh

Your hardware is fine, it's a software problem. First try clearing the CMOS, it isn't a drastic way... it only resets it to the default values. If that doesn't work, I'd say it's a good opportunity to move on to Win 7, because if it's a driver related problem you'll need to remove all the drivers related to the MB/CPU and then reinstall them... which can be a painfull process.
There was no other way, you needed to update the bios so the MB could recognize the new CPU.

If I get shot and it's a gay medic fixing me up, he's not gonna be fondling my balls while he does it. You can't patch a chest wound and suck a cock at the same time.

Reinstalling windows did the trick, but now I did lose most of my stuff :/
I had games like COH on the D drive (my windows is on C:), is there any way I can make them work again without needing a full reinstallation?

Tbh Coh is the only game i never got running by just fixing the registry. (oh and zero hour). Its definately faster to reinstall instead of spending 20 hours just to find out u cant get it to work..

I dont think so, if you format your pc it's best to format everything.

your problem sounded that your bios update messed a bios setting
from what you wrote down it could be that it alternated the setting for harddrive mode from IDE->AHCI or the way arround
winxp crashs giving a bluescreen than when changing the setting in bios without removing or installing the ahci driver
for the issue with not detected dual core in windows you could have chacked your bootini first if its booted using the bootswitch /numproc=1 and remove it or change it to /numproc=2

Too late now, reinstalled windows already.
It detects the dual core, shows 2 cpu graphs under performance in the task manager and I can set the affinity of programs. Going to be reinstalling COH

Don't know, doubt it, will try once it's reinstalled.
Edit: I will probably be able to, game runs a lot smoother either way, that's the main reason I upgraded.
