OMG has some nice maps. We have leophone and ampm's maps and other good ones. We even have keep's map. Should we cease a stupid embargo (if it exists) and trade? Release all our maps, and they release all of theirs. They have quite a few good maps. I think OMG might be up for this, tbh.

We don't have an embargo. All our mappers are free to do whatever they please.
It's OMG that has an 'exclusive map' system and is, as result, generally unwilling to share.

If anything we should probably stop sharing our maps to create a situation in which both mods benefit from trading maps. (Game-Theory 101)

The last time I approached them with some sort of map 'trade' offer, they rejected and said there were no maps they would like from us.

Anyway, they are free to do as they please of course. But you're posting in the wrong mod's forum...

To be fair EiRR hasn't respected OMG's maps policy (carentan/dutch countryside). This topic always pisses me off with its posturings from both sides. Technically, for both sides its up to the mapper (and several mappers do reach across the divide - Spartan, Duck, even I resectored whiteflash's maps over here).

Anyways, I know that I personally would be more inclined to share maps if this double-speak stopped, but I think that bridge has already been burned. Blaming the other community is always going to exist in this system. The division of the two communities has just lead to each community defining itself in relation to the other - emphasizing the differences and excluding them. This demonizing has gone on for too long, not to mention the scarring seperation, makes a super mod seem very unlikely.

But w/e eir has never had the sort of mapping community that we had at OMG, and for a simple reason :

It's true though, you can hit the relic forums and see the hordes of shitty mappers.

Good mappers are another matter, I looked over the OMG maps and a few seem interesting. But mostly its just more of the same over and over.

That's why I rarely make maps anymore. Nothing fun to do with them, if you make them different people complain, if they are the same why make them? So that's about it. Bored making standard generic maps, and ones that offer different approaches aren't played.

Well, i can't lie i like this idea either, i've been watching some shoutcast made by OMG and i always sit and think, "man that map is cool".

The mods exist they are equally good and equally deserved of the communities they have.  Its really time to move on and start thinking about just allowing maps to be played across the  board.

Relic owns the content anyway and if this really was to get serious none of us would have a leg to stand on.

Im just a grumpy ex gamer though so really I know the sides are mostly to entrenched in their own dogma to think this through with any level of maturity, hell i'll admit i was part of the all singing and dancing cold war hoo-har, so this will never happen until someone mans up and says "hey lets bygones be bygones" and move on and start this again.

Using OMG maps will happen about the same time they use EIRRs launcher... both teams have skills in different areas, but the past is the past.  People need to move on with the disappointment and hate...  

Its nice lately to be more impartial about the whole situation, takes a while sometimes to move on and grow up, but it usually happens.


also, you guys know there are tons of mods out there with their own unique maps, none of them have been released outside of their mods either.

Because the nature of your map system, being an exclusive one, you would have never really shared any significant number of maps anyway. There's no point in denying that so you should at least man up and admit it instead of trying to find excuses.

Anyway, it's time we all move on, we're beating a dead horse.

Yeah All things considered if I was in charge of the mapping policy I'd gladly share. Of course I'd gladly take as well. Nothing is off limits when it's all property of Relic.

Of course that's where I'm fundamentally different then a good portion of the dev team.
