Wasn't this the date WW1 ended?

Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November to recall the official end of World War I on that date in 1918, as the major hostilities of World War I were formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice. (Note that "at the 11th hour", refers to the passing of the 11th hour, or 11:00 am.)

"To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with lots of pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations."

The conflict is Irrelevant. It's Armed Forces members regardless of nationality or occupation. The world wars take most of the spotlight but it's veterans in general.

Originally observed as the official end of the Great War, it has progressed to be all encompassing.

and Mgallun Finland may not observe the 11th November as most of the world does but that's because they celebrate their sacrifices on the 3rd Sunday of May. Different times for different people(correct me if I'm wrong Nightrain)

Well, Germany lost a war that date (11/11, 11am, 1918,) not much reason to celebrate :p
It's primarily 'Armistice' day here in Belgium, to celebrate the end of WW1.

It's primarily a Commonwealth celebration but it's observed in the US, France, Belgium, Holland, Netherlands, Poland, Ireland(?)

Germany has a national day of mourning for it's fallen. WHich is almost essentially the same thing.

I think Belgium does it best with stopping traffic and playing the Last Post everyday at 2000 at the Menin gate.

Remembrance day is the name in Commonwealth countries. Its comprehensive evolution towards celebrating veterans of all wars has not really been followed here in France so far, where it's still celebrated as Armistice day (as in Belgium and other countries). As the last WWI French veterans died last year (or was it two years ago?), this year was marked by commemorations of other veterans (mostly former colonies veterans) and of students who, despite the German ban, celebrated the Armistice day in occupied Paris in 1940 (some were consequently arrested, tortured and killed).
By the way, whatever the country and the conflict is, may we all pay some respect to those veterans.

Here are two links to remember them, both veterans and WWI. And thanks to RoyalHants to have created this thread.

If anyone is Muslim, please realise the following message is not racits in any way.

Dunno if anyone is aware, but today on Remembrance today in London, a huge crowd of Muslims thought well to protest against our national Remembrance day, displaying posters with phrases such as "Burn British troops!" written on them.

This is absolutely disgusting. If anything of the sort happened in their country, they would go mental and bomb us to shit. And another thing, if they have sucha problem with us, I genuinely don't see why they fuck off. They're the dirty racist ones, how dare they do this to us. It's fucking disgusting.

Yes Brn you are absolutely correct and it is more or so for the troops who died in Winter War and Continuation War. Honestly I do think it has a huge value of thinking what sort of a hell it is as a 5 million population country to fight versus a country with so massive ammount of manpower that there's even no clear number of it even today

The muslim demonstration is utterly disgusting. The participants should be tried for dessacration of the dead and for fueling racial hate.
