Hey guys,

The only MMO that ive ever seriously played just went Free to play yesterday with their expansion release.

For those of you who never found this a couple years ago, consider PotBS to be EVE online with Age of Sail man o'war ships and a cartoony artstyle.

It's like 60% sailing around beating the fuck outta pirates/ chasing other players down in PvP, or port battles and 40% Avatar running around, exploring islands, towns, finding buried treasure and doing quests, all the normal WoW junk.

What I like about the game is that everything from your ship to your shoes is customizable, and the economy is really in depth and player run, and ship building companies that kind of function like Corporations in EVE.

You can be either a Trader (smuggler), Naval Officer, Privateer, or a Pirate, all have their unique end tier ships and ways of fighting. The class tree is rly in depth too.

Here's a picture of my Falcon Naval Frigate im running on my old account.

So, its free to play, no reason to not give it a try.

Sadly, avatar combat blows ass, and is something the game makes you do. Also, low level vs high level doesn't stand much chance, so pvp is meh.

Imma keep playing EvE =p

I dont find the avatar combat bad. Its drastically improved from when I last played over a year or 2 ago.

Also, high vs. low level pvp doesnt happen that much because the PvP combat areas are big designated red disks that surround ports in contestion. You can avoid those quite handily. Theoretically you can play and never enter a PvP zone.

Now, if you want to get somewhere faster and that requires you skirting a PvP zone, well you'd best have a fast ship, cause there be pirates about! Cheesy

Yes. It's how smaller ships overtake ships out of their class.

I was in closed beta for POTBS. Flying Labs is an example of how you can destroy a company when the wrong people are at the helm. Get it? Helm? Anyway.. there is a reason it is FTP now. If you like it now, cool. Seriously. But for me, I doubt i could go back and accept the way it is now.

Of all the games I've ever played, and I've played a lot, this was my favorite (possibly even more than Ultima Online in the 90's). But stupid corporate puppets following stupid statistical research effed the holy hell out of the game the designers built. Now you've gone and made me dig through my hard drive for old saved screenshots and forum backups.

I realized i still have it installed so I WAS going to log in, but it utterly refuses to let me log without redownloading all 7 gigs. Considering I live about 50 miles from human contact and have <1mb long range wireless internet from a pole in a cow field, i'm not going to redownload it.

I beta'd Mortal Online for a little while. I thought about trying after the release. I started the download to see how long it would take. 22 years. I decided against it.

Well my lvl35 is a Brit on Roberts.
At least it was, then i accidently switched the nation to spain now I cant use that character or something? idk, im confused and will probably just start a new guy.

But i think Roberts, for the server. I dont care what nation I am, but I was british last, and Damn be those dirty Pirates!
Id rather string 'em up then sail with em. Yarrrr! Wink
