Dunno you could check the official HoN forums. Failing that I know a few sites with guides for all the dota heroes and if you know them you're pretty much set unless you have a specific new hero you want to play

This contains guides for all the heroes. Also the guides that are on the start page in the shop are very helpful.

Use the build guides in the shop and tailor them to fit. You can even let the game lvl you according to their build guide if you don't want that hassle. When i'm dead, I like to browse through the items to see what I can make

http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/forumdisplay.php?f=17This is the Premium Guide Archive. Some people may not have updated their guide when a hero got changed but most of them should be pretty helpfull http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/forumdisplay.php?f=53This is the rest of the guides. Children who us training Wheels say that too. Until they actually know how to ride a real bike.
The Art style in LoL makes my eyes burn after about 40 mins. The Mechanics and map are another thing entirely but I won't ramble

I think it's better balanced though, and I enjoy the more straight-forward game mechanics. I dunno what it is that really makes me prefer it, but Ive played a fair amount of HoN games to compare the two. I'll keep playing both however.
In the end, it's a matter of des goûts et des couleurs.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I think I prefer the art and styling of League of Legends. HON seems so dark (and maybe this is a result of the more complex game mechanics) and hard to understand.

Graphics is probably the least important factor when deciding what game to play. No matter which one you decide to play you'll get used to the looks.
"LOL is too cartoony" or "HON is too dark" now that's just bullshit, please stop bringing that up.

It does matter to be honest, I have a much harder time recognising champions in HoN than I do in LoL, because of the art style/graphics. Shit also gets a lot more confusing in teambattles imo.
