If you own a console, and you enjoy a good, challenging 3rd person action/RPG, you owe it to yourself to get this game. It has to be one of the most unforgiving games of this generation (aside from it's predecessor, Demon's Souls, which you should also get if you have a PS3), and it's where I've been spendng my free time this past week. It can be quite frustrating, but it is ultimately incredibly rewarding. The online features are one-of-a-kind as well.

I've only played Demon's Souls, but it is probably the best action RPG out at the moment. No storyline whatsoever, but the combat is so balanced and varied. What frustrated me was that there are just some deaths you HAVE to have, dying cheaply is not good design, thank god it's only once or twice.

Dark Souls is gonna be at my place in 2 days, but I have exams in 7.. balls Sad

I played Demons Souls and once im done with Deus Ex  i will pick up Dark Souls. From my understanding pretty much the same game, which is great.

Its good to see that 360 players have the chance to play this, but i also see new PS3 owners hoping on board.

Honestly even though this game has like no story line, zero guidance, weak co-op online, little dialogue, etc. this is perhaps one of the greatest games of all time.
Its fun to notice how this game affects people.

You can be a 12 year old COD kiddie
or a veteran RPG player who started playing with Ultima or Betrayal At Krondor

Both people will enjoy this game and get completely sucked in.

Even though DS gets a lot of attention and scores very well (Had to browse through about 200+ reviews to find one mediocre review on Demons Souls), still think its a very underrated game.

I think the main reason why it appeals to people like us is that it is a hardcore RPG, it's not watered down or in easy mode. When you die, you lose time, you lose all of your hard work. You don't just respawn at town or lose a % of XP or Gold. The fact that every unit can also kill you from start to finish is also a highlight. There is nowhere to hide.

From what i've read, Dark Souls is a more open game than Demon's Souls. Hopefully it still features extremely tough challenges like the Old King. What really attracted me was the variation in the five different worlds, too. 1-1 and 4-1 were beautiful, whereas world 2 and world 5 were all claustrophobic and really dark. The ambient sounds of areas were eerie and fit the mood perfectly.

Return to Krondor was my first RPG, and the combat in that was amazing! I wish they made another like it Sad. I haven't got the chance to get to Betrayal yet! If you're talking about high end RPG's though, you should give Might and Magic 6 a shot. I've played it around 5-6 times and every time has been an extremely rewarding and enjoyable experience.

I read sooo many good review about MM6. But i cant get over how bad the graphics are. I m no graphics whore, and i think a game like Master of Magic  (horrible graphics) is amazing. But MM6-9 and like most late 90s PC games went to this horrible 2d sprite where they used real actors or people in costumes.
Me I love Lands of Lore (1993) but it was all hand drawn and still looks good. Basically handdrawn 2d aged better than primitive 3d or photo 2d sprites.

Dark/Demons Souls is appealing b/c its not a cookie cutter RPG. Its tough , but its so awesome that the whole game is basically just secrets. While most games might have a rare item here or there, thats what DS is all about. And if you go to the gamespot forum page, there are like 60 posts every 3 minutes about where to get this item, or how to defeat a boss, or how to get spells. NEVER have i seen such a involved community.

Not to mention the combat/stat system is freaking amazing. Its awesome how the stats like stamina, endurance, str, dex, all do something different. Wish RPGs would take a note from DS on how to do a action RPG. Most RPGs now in days are so mindless. Even Witcher was a bit...mehhh.

Anyone hear that lord british wants to make games again. Maybe Ultima? I dont think he has what it takes anymore to make a good RPG. Now in days its not that easy.

You played Betrayal at Krondor and you're complaining about MM6? Tongue

I get what you mean, and fair enough, if you're gonna sink 60+ hours into a game, you want it to look reasonably pretty. I'd emplore you to reconsider. I've played 4,5,6,7,8 and 6 was easily the standout.

well i played Krondor back in the day. WHen it was cool and the fact it was like 18 disks made it cooler. Remember thinking double helix was cool b/c it was a game on a CD with FMV.

Why is 6 so good?
Man it sucks how Lands of Lore did so well but LOL2 and LOL 3 just sucked.  Guess its a good thing Westwood games went down.
