If you were going to showcase the US, I would focus on the south personally. Dramatic history and such. Plus the variety. You can find the city urban environments with their own culture, then not but 30 minutes away the classic "southern gentlemen" type of culture, then another 30 minutes away you find the fuckin' sticks where 'Deliverance' isn't too far off in its depiction and it's like one big real life horror movie.

As for America as a whole... yes you find the stereotypical 'McCulture' that the rest of the world chooses to focus on (because it's the one we export. Sorry), but each region has it's own distinct "flavor".

My own preference would tend towards the south.

Or you could focus on Texas "culture" and get points for making people laugh hysterically.

I can start by telling you a little about the culture over here in Sweden.

We drink a lot of milk and coffee, so on the hot summer day when you go to the beach you will see people drinking steaming hot coffee.

and milk is what we drink for every meal, so when you go to the local mcdonalds they will ask: do you want milk or do you want coca-cola with milk?

I mean the there is so much mix and mash with the "English" culture that there is no real right or wrong answer. Especially since you are writing a fictional INDIVIDUALS perspective. Which means even if the story you write seems outrageous its that individuals perspective and therefore truth.
