Trench busters are the strongest flame unit in the game due to it being on a sapper squad

I thought this was designed/intended this way, but let's see what our resident coder has to say about that.....

might be strongest defensive wise. it doesn carry mp44s or have any extra ability that makes it cost so much. besides the doctrine armor already has a low infantry limit so.

bump,
this unit needs a serious look at balance wise
i have tried to use this unit cost effectively but it pales in comparioson to engies or pios with flamers

its 5 pop 7 pool and 220mp 80mu and is also a doctrinal unlock
as opposed to
PIO
2 pop 2 pool 110mp 55mu
Engies
3pop 2 pool 110mp 55mu

the trench busters feel like they are incredibly costly for a unit that underperforms its role of clearing trenches and structures.

the fact there on a 4 man squad does improve there survivability but then their nearly double the cost of any other flame squad on such a fragile platform and still only getting one flamer the cost doesnot out weight the effectiveness.

ive tried using the old smoke and flamer combo to no effect, trench busters just dont seem to have the same dps as youd get from 2x pios or 2x engies

The thing is, u need to use them either in conjunction with mario carts, OR gave more than one when attacking, I used them and the most times they failed was when i tried attacking positions without smoke.

well i dont think its balanced that you should have to dedicate 8 pop for busters in bren or 10 pop for 2x busters to do a job a 2, 3, 4, or 6 pop selection can do.

there damage is considerbly low when your shelling out so much mp and mu

they should get either an extra flamer, be cheaper inline with pios/engies or remove them altogether

Neither Pio nor Engineer have Soldier armor nor 4 men in the squad.  Plus 40 manpower more isn't extremely massive thing. Pool however looks too high.

You are complaining about a unit, with a flamethrower, that can have an effective health of 105 HP/man (with 4 men) and soldier armour (with vet and captain), which can then be increased to an effective 187.5 HP/man for 30 seconds with an offmap, is perfectly effective in smoke and can ride a mario kart.

You are complaining. About. This. Unit.

Why?

sure they look good on paper myst, and there theoretical hp is nice, but there cost is what im on about.
they do not perform close to their cost.

there exaclty 110mp more then pios and engies
and exactly 25mu more then the flamer upgrade for pios and engies

there 5 pool cost higher then pios or engies
and for some strange reason have a pop cap of 5 when pios and engines have 2/3
5 pop cap maybe they shoudl get that extra man for it.

they just do no perform for their cost myst incase you mysssted that ^^^ unless thers a button or ability on them i dont see

for example last game in a 3v3 2x TB squads in smoke lost to a KCH squad, care to elaborate  ? even with the 105hp per man in smoke in yellow cover

They cost 110 MP and 25 MU more than engineers or pios, right. Not even twice the cost. At the upside of being able to get so strong that each man is as survivable as the entire squad of engineers against small arms. I think it's a bloody good deal.

They perform perfectly fine, you just happen to suck using the second-best doctrine in the game.

btw, the ability to be in bren carrier was taken away quite a while ago due to spam.

Flame + piat sapper spam was quite prevalent for a while.

They definitely can still hop aboard. It's just getting them to pre-spawn that's the bitch.

After using them. i think the problem is that you already have low infantry Pool as is, once you count the cpt lt thats 14 pool.
Also it being a Tank oriented doctrine most of your munis goes into tanks.

The pool value is a bit silly, I'll agree. But that's an issue with the pool mechanic being poorly done to begin with, rather than anything else.

I can't remember who ran the company, but I know trench busters + brens + ablative armor is ridiculous! Have a scouting unit and hit enemy flanks with 2-3 of the flaming brens and there's nothing to stop it really except if you have a tank handy, but it's quite easy for the CW player to bring up an atg or FF to help out.

Pool cost is quite high, but it seems paying 80mu for two flamers is a great deal. you just need the bren firing on the same squads you are flaming to bring their health down quicker.
