Ultimately, the casual gamer has more of say because there are more of them than there are of us. How many guys here can honestly say there's enough of a difference between the Call of Duty releases to warrant paying $60 every year? Sports games are in a similar boat, but I must admit, they make enough of a difference to warrant the money spent every year (NBA 2k11 vs 2k12).

For those who want to 'stick it to the man', there is always torrenting, which is becoming increasingly more popular. Look at the backlash from The Witcher 2 containing heavy DRM -- it was one of the most heavily torrented games in existence. People will just get for free what they don't want to pay for, or even just download it for the principle (to seed). The average consumer is a lot more informed and has a larger variety of ways to obtain the same end result.

Catering to a mass market is just good business practice.

In other words, don't be hatin EA, you should be hating Blizzard for releasing like 3 games in the last 10 years, or Activision for thinking you're an idiot and making you pay for the exact same engine every year.
