Honestly I'm disappointed in the video.

CoH2 wil be fantastic but they picked the wrong medium for the video.

CoH looks great and action packed when you play it like an RTS. Shits flying, people are dying, bullets kick up dirt. and in the regard it looks fantastic.

they've zoomed in on everything so much in the video that you really start to notice the polygons and the  up close stuff you're not normally going to watch 100% of the time. So it detracts from the gameplay aspect. The Scenes with the Riflement firing and the Katusha volley firing look fine. they are zoomed out enough

Wish they hadn't zoomed in on absolutely everything in the video.

Also, i know they are being tight lipped about details and video even this close to release but I think Relic should get some ingame matches going on a stream or downloadable shoutcast formats. Blizzard did a really good job with Starcraft2's development keeping it transparent and putting out videos, even if those mechanics changed with time.

EIR territory seems more like something that had to be included in order to provide an end to the match, besides sheer deathmatch.

On the surface it seems this way, but thats only because alot of people sacrifice alot of units to kill alot. All the best games anyones ever played(not watched, but played) actually have very low kill counts and totals. The combat becomes a positional match. I always prefer those games because they require alot more intensive thinking

They need a good NIS like the one for COH back then.

I would rather see all capable hands on deck getting the game out. Screw the fancy bullshit extra marketing.

Relic needs to do fuck all in marketing to be honest.

The territory aspect is far less important than it is in vCOH

The territory aspect in larger games of COH like 3v3 becomes very insignificant as well. Where as in a 2v2 of EIR territory can make a huge difference.

Well, I suppose for a trailer it's more 'epic' to portray combat scenes of an RTS up close than just in the zoomed out format. I think the trailer was okay but what I really want to see now is some gameplay videos. Are the graphics actually any different from COH 1 btw? They look exactly the same to me? I don't really mind because COH 1 looks freaking fantastic with everything on ultra, just curious.

Seriously, who plays 3vs3 in vCOH? Anything above 2vs2 is the utter toilet of ideal vCOH gameplay.

Graphics look very similar to coh1.
Looks like they just tweaked the lighting settings for maps, possibly added ambient occlusion or some kind of filter.
Perhaps they optimized the engine for DX11 and ran out of money after that.

Lots of recycled art models from coh1. its pretty ridiculous. On some scenes in the video I don't even see anything new. You would be able to rebuild the exact same scene in coh1 wb.

But tbh, if they've done a good job with recreating the feeling of coh1(before OF) then I guess its mission success. coh1 could no longer be saved with 2 fucked up factions added.
But I wonder if they will be able to. Does the guy who made all the good vcoh mp maps still works at relic? I wonder, since all the later good mp maps relic added were community made. And they lost one of their designers (the lead designer of coho) to a car accident (rip).

so its basically coh1 with russians and some updated stuff.

I'm game.

and if they keep the similar engine, hopefully it'll be moddable so we can put US back in! lmao

The leaked gameplay video clearly shows that the graphics are improved. I'd wait with such statements until you have gotten a chance to play the game.

Clearly? I can give you screenshots of COH that probably look even better. I have no doubt that it's an improved engine, but I wouldn't go so far as to claim there's a dramatic improvement. Not that COH really needed one anyway, so it really doesn't matter much.

Looking at the video now, it has better ground textures, more detailed buildings, trees, fences, sandbags, pretty much every thing looks better. Not the mention the fire effects and explosions, holy shit. And that's only with the normal graphic settings, filmed with a mobile camera and on a pre-alpha build. As Quinn Duffy stated "the build is nowhere near the quality that the finished game will achieve."

It's especially baffling how pony comes across as an absolute fanatic know-it-better every time he posts, on any subject.

...Interesting is a very subjective term.

I mean I know Obama was the first one in EiR to get a card. and tbfh the Race card is pretty OP. but Romney has the K.K.K., those guys seem to camo anywhere. So OP units from both sides.
At the end of the day, however, stormtroopers finally got the anal invasion with a cactus they have richly deserved for years.

Believe me when I say I was as diplomatic as I am humanly capable of being in using "interesting" there.

CoH is considered the best RTS created in it's day. Why would expect massive changes to something that was incredible to begin with?

Does there come a point when you just can't make massive improvements anymore?

I expect some new features and slight improvements.

I expect building to building combat to be brought into RTS one of these days, Act Of War did a really good job with it. Every squad had a cqc ability and when two squads shared the same building would fight it out without you needing to do anything.

Don't mention act of war... BEST RTS EVER MADE OF ITS KIND... PERIOD!

Shame you need to limit your system to 3gb ram to play it these days... My system needs at least 2 just to run, lol
