"We realized after investigating the custom maps issue, that even though .sgas can't be played online, .sgbs can. We are going to keep this system and therefore .sgas will not be fixed. We encourage all mappers to release their files in .sgbs as the standard file to release maps in. This will make it easier for everyone to enjoy custom maps."

No more .sga files... guess I have to figure out how to make maps into .sgb files now.  Shouldn't be all that much different I suppose.

SGBs require multiple files going into different directories and the game started in dev mode.

So yea....oh joy.

I'm really fed up with the crappy Relic support on mapping & modding.

Why in the world would they decide SGB's would be easier to distribute?

They had issues with map .sga's ever since OF was released and I guess rather than trying to fix it they just figured they'd drop .sga files and continue with .sgbs. I'm sure it saves them time and money not fixing it...

So it's not a mistake, I thought maybe she mis-spoke and SGA's worked online and SGB's didn't...

hey fldash is it possible for the EIR battle files to contain scar files for maps, so that when you create a game you can have

1. normal
2. mission A
3. mission B

bla bla bla?

and it will dl the scar files for that game? could make it easyer for my scar mission (if i ever get round to testing it, gonna be fucking anoying since most people dont have the time to mess about with all the .sgb files and shit.)

Well your maps save in /sgb to begin with.  Compiling all of the files just compresses them all into .sga.

However, .sgb maps with all of their files, are usually about 30-40 megabytes in total.  When compressed into a zip folder, they're usually only 4 megabytes, but still, say hello to a huge map folder.

Also, expect for the loading screen, all of your map files go into the same directory.

In your MP folder there should be a folder named, 'loading'.  Put your load picture in there.

This is a total fucking cop out on their part. I really am in complete shock that they would do something this short-sighted and lazy.

Granted it won't be that big of a deal for this community, as everyone here knows the basics of installing maps and there are plenty of people to help if anyone needs it, but it just shows how unimportant Relic sees this part of the community.

Mapping already is difficult and incredibly time consuming, just look at Relic's offerings, FOUR 1v1's for the first YEAR the game was out. Now we have 5 official and 3 shitty, unbalanced, unpolished, community maps that we are FORCED to play in ranked, not that stats are working anyways.  Angry

I don't typically rant, but I just feel a little used and sold-out by a developer that I didn't think would do it. Undecided

Hey everyone, I just talked to Allie.  She wants us to put together a list of all the advantages of SGA compared with SGB.  This includes such things as the size differences, ability to be distributed easily, simplicity of installation, etc...

After we get this completed, I'll compile and send to her.

Thanks for your help!
