Vermillio; happily pays $50 for new game, angry that he might have to pay $50 to get all the content he wants in a F2P.
Getting all the content that is available in a f2p is generally MUCH more expensive than a regular game.
It can be anything from 2x to 20x

Or 0x...
ST:O for instance, you don't have to ever buy anything to get everything. It just requires time.
I mean, they could just make you buy it, then release a ton of DLC/Expansions.

What's wrong with F2P is it's a business model that, from my experience, is generally not in favour of the consumer. Of course, I know all about your views of consumer rights, being indoctrinated in America's far-right capitalism as you are, so there's no need to question your judgement further.
You have plenty of rights, you have the right not to play, and if you do play, not to pay.
Don't like it, don't pay for it.

F2P does work. But there are two versions.
There is the Pay to win version and there is the Pay for extra stuff that has no impact on gameplay version.
Since it's EA my guess is that it's going to cost 60$, plus pay to win, plus expensive dlc instead of patches and annoying drm, oh and commercials ingame

Don't like it, don't pay for it.
Oh, I have plenty of "rights" regarding Free-to-Play games, that does not, however, change what I said earlier. Look at Team Fortress 2. Valve suddenly released the game to everyone, shoving their initial customers aside with a superficial hat to make room for an expanded microtransaction system. Free-to-players received nearly everything previous customers had, and what they didn't have they could purchase for generally inane prices with microtransactions. Even now, they just implemented a new gamemode featuring acquirable loot for winning. However, if you wish to gain access to the official servers which feature dropped loot, you must pay PER GAME. That's only for a chance of loot. If you want guaranteed loot, you must pay again for one round of guaranteed loot.
That is a system I'd term as customer-unfriendly. There are good Free-to-Play games, out there, but many, perhaps a majority, don't deserve that moniker any more than the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea deserves its, ergo, my point still stands.

At which point did they force you to pay for things? Don't want random loot, don't pay.
Pretty simple.
If you want to play for free play for free. If you want to pay, pay.
If I enjoy a F2P game enough, I tend to put in about $15 a month, to get some extras and keep the servers going.

I'm certain no customer is unhappy at initial purchase. The question is whether happiness derives from a momentary pleasure from the consumer culture, at the expense of the customer, or from lasting appreciation of the product. Methinks the former is the case for the majority of such games. The drive to make such impulsive purchases and experience that thrill of consumerism is then exploited in the purchasing systems, with using guilt purchasing techniques to suck more money than the average game does out of the consumer while still giving that momentary pleasure. Age of Empires Online and Blacklight come to mind having this sort of system. So no, they don't make money off of unhappy customers, but one must ask what defines happiness in the case of the purchases.

Then you are certainly entitled to that opinion. Being American, I'm certain exploitation is far from foreign to you. But please, don't go on and say it doesn't mean that this system is wrong. Simply because it exists doesn't make it right.

You state that it is wrong to encourage impulse spending?
Shit, better get rid of the impulse buys at shops, gas stations, etc. I mean damn, might even want to get rid of all advertising....
In no instance are you forced to do anything. If you, as an adult, are not responsible enough to keep within your own spending limits, I see that as your fault, not the company that is making a game/product to make money so that they can afford to make more and pay their employees fault.

Sure. America certainly didn't breed good English skills, since I'm fairly certain the slur you're directing at me is properly written as "pantywaist".

While there are some games with a good f2p system out there (League of Legends comes out as an excellent example) most f2p games have an absolutely atrocious system that only detracts from the game (every single pay 2 win game out there).
If not handled correctly, f2p can turn any good game into shit.

World of Tanks.
"Awww are you not happy grinding money and being unable to upkeep your beautiful tank of tier 7? You get what you pay".
If you pay, you get gold, gold gives you advantages compared to other people and brings a risk of balance failures.
I think League of Legends is a good example of a working F2P system. If you buy something with real money you do not gain any form of unfair advantage compared to other players or anything making it easy mode.
TF2 if you are F2P you can't trade, you buy something from Valve store, something cheap, ting, you can trade and get same benefits of those who bought hte game. If anything those people who bought the game were ripped off in a sense that they paid more of it than F2Pers who bought from Valve store. However those who bought the game had played it longer and had more skills and most of all: More items. Of course free items doesn't justify the fact you paid 30 dollars or so from it in the past but you are now rewarded of your purchase that everything that is released you get free of charge.
In a sense, most F2Ps are this: You pay, you win, you don't pay, suck it up and grind.

Because a forum post should be like a woman's skirt. Long enough to cover the subject material, but short enough to keep things interesting.
