Hiya all,

I'm guessing that the COH client gets its info for the Europe in ruins mod from this website.  IE How many infantry squads you have to use etc.  What would stop someone editing this file?  IE only having 3 squards on the website but editing the file before the match starts and ending up with 6 squads?

Editing the file will require significant effort.  Firstly, it's packed into an SGA.  Secondly, editing it would cause a sync error.  Wink

We may look at encrypting it if it becomes an issue.

So how does it technically work then? Does the player have to copy the file himself?

Yeah. Download from website, extract in proper place. A more user friendly way of doing it will become available in the future.

How do you guys plan on handling that? Some kind of 3rd party software? Because we've been talking about this for a while, and it sounded like a good idea to us to have an end-user environment (3rd party tool) that will both act as a man-in-the-middle piece of software (to implement extra security measures) and allow people to easily arrange matches, or something. Basically a tool that the users can use to manage their squads, arrange a match and launch the game all with a few clicks, if you get what I'm trying to say Smiley

Just suggestions.

It won't be third party, we'll write it.

I know, but by 3rd party I mean neither implemented in CoH nor in the web interface ...

phK, we are looking into a separate client that interacts with the website, downloads your battle files and places them where they need to be automatically.

It will get a sync error. AFAIK all players must have the exact same files.

Correct me if my faith in Relic is unfounded.

Yeah, they all have to have the same file.

There is no way a player can give himself more units or anything.

We've looked into cheating and at the moment it's quite difficult.  If we run into any problems we can easily encrypt everything.

So in short, you can't cheat to further yourself.

If you knew what you were doing and had planned it with your opponent before hand, you could in theory change something successfully.

Battle results will be uploaded in the future, and if we recieve back something that doesn't make any sense (extra units or what have you), we'll get an error report of it and come a-knocking!

Well, can't possibly cheat together with your opponent as it's not likely that he'll let you get stronger units Tongue.
