The critic said the movie was the newest of a genre of German poor-quality historical films seeking sympathy for Nazi Germany. Their recipe, he wrote, "tastes like a western movie, but in the background waves a flag with a swastika."

They weren't fighting for their sake either, just for freedom to liberate poland. War should never be portrayed as beauty nor glory. It ain't either of those. It is plain self survival with everything else around one being sacrifical. The polish army was betrayed by Russian forces during the uprising in Warsaw and practically slaughtered as a result. No one would of aided them either way despite the way they thought, why? No one cared. War generation brings another point of view. A non-hollywood US patriotic cheer. It is a daring move to make a movie of German POV, because everyone believes hollywood propaganda and portrays the entire country as evil, bad and so on. It wasn't all Gestapo and SS as it wasn't all Commissar and blind suicide charges with the Russians. I wouldn't say it is a bad mini-series, nor a comedy show either. It certainly brings a new point of view to things.

Saying that this movie was comedy is kinda wrong. I personally consider saving Private ryan a flashy comedy, same with quite a few of war movies. That's what they really are. Flashy explosions and heroism. I personally prefer the German made war movies. Stalingrad, Das Boot. Both of them were pretty good and neither of them ended quite well. Movies like Enemy at the gate was even more of a joke and a laugh than anything to be taken too seriously. If it was based on real life events- then the truth is better than what was provided.

Your whitewashing and insistent denial can only be explained by you being polish. Antisemitism was widespread in WW2 Poland, just like much of the rest of Europe.
