well first of id like to say hi to everyone and thanks for taking me under your wing ..cant be easy to  put up with a complete noob ...but im getting there so thanks again for your patience and understanding ...right...here goes...

ive been thing of making one of my companys a historical one ..eg only use the weapons and equipment fielded by a panzer grenadier company from 43/45..and only use what 'gear'  assigned them at regimental level ..<so no tigers/pershings <<as these where assigned at div level>> .
if any one would like to do same with allied forces maybe we can research together and put army lists on  board for those of us that wish to try a 'realistic' approach ?

as i long time wargamer this would be an excellant project .....well  let me know if any one else is intersted ..well thanks for your time...

Welcome!

You might check with Apex or Unkn0wn, they are on the dev team and have been working on 2.0 which will add the Opposing Fronts units.  Also, the mod is moving toward a platoon purchasing system that we don't know too much about... but I hear rumor that the platoons are setup in historical arrangements to give it a table top sort of feel.  Upgrades should be still customizable...

Again welcome and great to have you here.

i have numerous publications and army lists from war games sources ..id be more than glad to help out in this manner ...example..

pz-gren 1944

coy hq
mg team (co)mg team (2ic)
motor cycle+side car<says field car in lists > so use a sdkfz 251

2-3 pz-gren plt <each consisting of>
mg team (plt hq)
sdkfz 251
pz gren + lmg  X2
han 251 x2

regtiment assets

panzerjaeger plt
0-1
motorcycle + side car(plt hq)
3 x pak 40
3 x tows <sdkfz 251/trucks>

Hvy Plt
0-1
mg team (plt hq)
sdkfz 251
 1-2 hvy plt <each conisiting of>
81mm mortar x2
sdkfz x2
hmg x2
sdkfz 251 x2
hmg  251 x2
sdkfz 251 x2

now in a combat situation as in coh the sdkf would be left behind lines and pz-gren would advance on foot ...the list above is basic and it can be built upon ..eg ing gun sections /flamethrower /poineer/and armour
as 1 pzgren +1 pz regt made up 1 pz div ..

well hope this makes my suggestions easier to follow ..any questions please feel free to get in touch ..i  like researching in  my dottage:)

Welcome to EIR!

I like the aspect of realism you are trying to obtain, but just be sure to keep things like popcap and such in mind.

Platoon composition is important, if you get to caught up in realism you are liable to get steamrolled by a timely tank, or heavy inf blob.

Good luck and make sure you get on Vent if you are looking to play.

Welcome!

We have been thinking about something very similar to your army list. It is very realistic and would give EiR a certain touch.

The problem is though that this kind of historical company composition, as you can also see it in tabletop ww2 games, is not ideal for a coh mod. Wraith already mentioned it, there is factors like population cap and balance which wont harmony with a realitic army list like this. Imagine a rifle battalion clashing with a heavy tank battalion.

Furthermore realistic platoon sizes would be to big for a squad based game like EiR. And things would either get repetetive because realitic platoons are quite rigid and dont offer a lot of customisation (like in a simple rifle battalion), or if they do things would get complicated quick (as attaching/detaching hmgs from weapons platoons to combat platoons etc.).

I dont wanna spoil the suprise and talk about what we are developing, but you will see for yourself.

Enjoy!

thats why my lobbying has failed. makes alot more sense now, i dont think i apperciated how big 2.0 was change wise

i doubt any amount of lobbying will get 2.0 released any sooner, so ill go back to my whole, i cant wait till a reset however, the fact that i went defense, got t4 in 2.5 days and THEN went back to allies really screwed me on the power scale

of course by 'screwed me' i mean im at the same power level as everyone else. not above Wink

Heya Forum, Im new here first post, never played the Mod but this thread sounded interesting to me.
First of all, this mod sound pretty awesome and it seems it can bring me close to the best strategy game ever - Combat Mission.
This game offers the deepest strategy and tactical gameplay ever and maybe you can get some idead out of it.

In CM the squads have 3men (out of 5-12) showed because the game handles army lists up to battallion strength.
In CoH realistic squad sizes would lead into pathing problems³ but what about let the squadsize untouched but give it the "real" firepower?

The Tank Problem is a player problem not a problem of the mod I say.
Its my own fault if I choose riflecompany and get owned by tanks.
I mean, who would go out without Tanksupport eh?
I have a shitload of more suggestions but I guess I have a look on the mod before I post them. Maybe it wont work in it maybe it´s allready implented.
