There's no excuse to only have a single mortar between two players as the only indirect fire weapon available.  Mortars are cheap and low popcap now I always roll with 2.  I realize you both went pershing, but the odds of having a battle with two armor players and neither having a calliope are very small.  Usually there will either be a cally or another doctrine.

I agree that RTC is fairly easy to lock down with TTs and wire because it is so damn skinny, but I wouldn't blame the map.

I am at work so I can't see the replay, but with a pershing, you could have at least broken a hole in the TT wall to allow inf and other units to enter.  But again, they would have needed mortar support vs emplaced MGs and paks.  Hell a sniper could have been good.  Use the sniper to hit the MGs near the wall, they can't chase because they are stuck behind the wall.

I would say next time bring more mortars or calliope or else don't go double armor no cally on RTC.

That said, this would be an example of a situation where demo charges working on TTs would be very helpful.

actually this is the first time i've seen 88's work.  GG.

As for allies.... if you realized what they were doing and what you had to counter, you would have brought your heavy crushing in and rolled the right side early game.

Good lesson learned.

Early pershing would've done a lot on the right side before the second Flak came on.

We have good stuff Stuart, people just complain when we use it.

If you're having problems with situations like these, I suggest you switch from the Pershing to the Calliope.

I've faced this exact situation twice on St. Hilaire, back when my company was new.  Maps like this are really tough to attack with 2 defensive players.  The key is to find whatever holes in a flank you can to exploit.  Greyhounds are *great* for this.  Take one with a couple of infantry squads, and use it to take care of any HMGs or light vehicles.  Heavier armor should be scared away with stickies.  If you encounter both AT and AI, it becomes more difficult but you should be able to flank an ATG before dieing with your Greyhound... just pick your targets carefully.  In any case, I know it's kind of pointless to try and give general advice to a specific situation.  Point is, I know it's difficult but that's when you really need to take some risks after winding up in that situation Tongue

Croc or Greyhound to break through, infantry to follow.  Kill as much as you can that can impede your infantry, especially if you are using the croc, before you lose it.  Try to avoid getting in LOS of the 88, but remember that you can take a few hits with the croc (either way, if you get right up next to the 88 and circle it with the croc or greyhound there is a high chance of the 88 missing you).  You should be able to charge and decrew it before death.  There's no garunteed way to beat 2 defensive players with 88s on a narrow map, but you sure as hell can try if you have a plan.  The important thing is to do it early rather than later.

General suggestion to armored players : Always make sure you have a Pershing, or failing that, a croc with bulldozer in your company to take care of tank traps.

On the subject of RTC, there's still a free MG42 on the map. Can we please remove it?

Though, I should mention.  Road to Carentan is more difficult than St. Hillaire.  There are more flanks to attack from (IIRC, there are 3-ish rows of sectors) while RTC has just 2 sets.  Crazy thought, maybe split the 2 rows in to 3, adding a line of sectors in the middle?

I thought "RTC" was originally made rectangular in order to prevent spawn-camping. That has changed.

That was originally a big plus side indeed but with spawn-buff units, spawncamping became pretty much non-existant Smiley.

I'll make some changes to RTC in february, after my exams.
In addition, I'll also start working again on my 4p_Nuenen map then and me and AMPM have plans to commence a 6 player joint-mapping project Smiley.
