I've noticed a lot of Axis players complaining that Stormtroopers really aren't all that good when playing EiR.

Well, I beg to differ. I've been playing around with them for the past 20 games or something and I've found them to be one of the best assets I have in my entire Blitz army.

In this replay you will see my main stormtrooper platoon (2 Storms, 4 Panzershecks, 2 medkits) duke it out and come up as the MVP of the game.

Basically without those anti-tank storm troopers, I doubt I would have won the game.

Overall, the platoon of storm troopers racked up an impressive kill list of;

1 Sherman
1 M10
1 Howitzer
2 M8
Some Infantry

Sure you can't go toe to toe with the likes of Rangers, but with Storm troopers you can pick your fights and make them balanced in your favour.  Its all about Ambushing!

I just watched the replay, and it seems like he didn't even realize stormtroopers existed.

"Oh hey, some magical cloaking shrek units just killed my Sherman, oh well, m8 to the rescue!!"

"Damn, my m8 died mysteriously, lets bring out a Howitzer!"

All in all, playing a 1v1 against someone who didn't seem to grasp that they were out there on a small urban map doesn't mean they are super awesome. I've killed 5 enemy tanks with a well micro'd and repaired Panzer 4 during a game, doesn't mean that will happen most of the time.

I still can't believe he put units into houses that didn't have windows facing the direction you were coming from, and that he lost his HMG to spawn artillery.

Thats when you get something that can suppress and a jeep and go hunting =)

I have had games where storms are useful, but they get less and less useful the more players you add.

1v1 they are great, the enemy has to cripple themselves to find them, 2v2 they are pretty good, after that they just get swarmed by rifles the moment they show up. Mine have mostly been relegated to scouts, since they can move at full speed while stealthed. They are a great alternative to Military Intel to get LoS on that howi =)

You're missing the point, STs and Shrecks can be awesome indeed.
(Although you'll usually only rack up one tank kill before they come hunting you down and you'll be forced off-map... Bye bye 800MP & over 600 Mun. For that price you have 2 PAK guns which are a way better investment as they can ambush, they can be remanned and they're more durable.)

The main problem however is that Stormtroopers without upgrades are useless.
Even stormtroopers with Stg44s are not really that impressive either.
(Due to the high cost of each individual STg44.)


I personally would like stormtroopers to be seen more as front-line troops rather than the odd occasional "sneaky" 2-squad storm platoon.
To compensate their shrecks & bundles could be a little more expensive for example. (Because thats pretty much the only consistent damage that STs can deal )

But that's just me
