I had an idea. How about every company being able to purchase a command staff team, which could be used to set up a forward base that would allow you to reinforce from it, like a stationary half-track. Have it work like the trucks for 88's, except they are men instead of a vehicle.

Or, on the other extreme, disallow reinforcements what so ever.

Also, perhaps the on field pop should be lowered from 50. 50 is a lot of people and encourages spam. Perhaps 35 would be better. Would make games more tactical and would allow players to play on regular sized maps for the number of people.

Hmm, some good ideas.

Personally I wouldn't mind seeing field HQs but would they cost mp or would you just have to purchase the staff? (Armed with pistols, then put them in a building and you can establish a field HQ)

It could indeed be a nice change from halftracks, that are mobile but not as durable as a building.

Lowering the popcap might make sense, currently I agree that there's quite some infantry spam possible, way more than you'd ever see in vCoH might I add. However the unit pop caps themself are OK and an overall, small balanced force works well within 50 pop cap.
We should try 40 pop cap, might add quite some more micromanagement to the game.

40 seems good. But i think that anything below would be too small.

I imagine it should work like the 88's. You buy it out of game, and it is free to use in game.

Yes, especially for tanks going below would be dramatical.

If you field a Tiger (16 pop) you'd only be able to pull up a few more squads to support it Tongue.

40 isn't nearly enough...

Firstly, it would make it very hard to field a balanced force. My initial force usually involves bringing in TWO infantry squads, and I still fill up the popcap because I still have engineers, a halftrack, an HMG, a mortar, and a greyhound, as well as a sniper or two.All this would do is encourage more infantry spamming, because people wouldn't really be able to bring in anything else.

Actually, we'll also lower all vehicle pop caps to compensate.
So in short, infantry amounts will be slightly lesser but you'll be able to bring in just as many vehicles Wink.

Let us at least give it a try, we can always change it back if it doesn't work out!

that will make mortars even MORE ridiculously powerful. The reason they're somewhat okay now is that you can field many infantry for each mortar. With less infantry, mortars will be ridiculous.

Mortars have been increased in price Wink.

Gotta look at the big picture my friend.

Demonic Spoon does have a point.

However, at the same time, it's not a bad idea to test out other population caps - infact, right now would be the best time.

Let's give it a try with 40 pop cap and we can comment on the difference once we try it.

Others beside unknown think that 40 pop cap will be more ideal.   It's too much theory-craft to 'guess' which is better without trying it out.

I've been looking over the forums, and Europe in Ruins in general. I have to say I have some suggestions. Since we're dealing with divisions here, I think we should have a relatively high pop cap. Low enough that people have to field balanced forces to win, but high enough to give us nice, large battles.

Secondly, I think some vehicle costs should go down. I've got an infantry division, the 12th Infantry Division, but I would at least like to field SOME armoured support of my own. As it stands, I only have one Sherman and a couple M10s.

And ummm, 40 pop? That kind of doesn't work considering my smallest company takes up 25 pop, and my largest has something like 116.

Just my two cents.

First of all, you have a huge pop-cap.  It just you can only command so many units at a time in battle.  This is because we are PRO-micro and against SPAM.  Vehicles are expensive for a reason, as our anti-tank weapons.  This is by nature, we don't want the battles to be tank wars.  They should be infantry battles with tanks for back-up.

I don't spam. I just like fairly large battles. As it stands, with a pop cap of 40 per battle, my largest company could fight three seperate battes at the same time. I just checked, largest company is 161.

Mind you, i'm more of an artillery guy myself. I have a howitzer and several 57mm guns in every company.

This is just a simple asthetic idea.  Move the timer so that it's not overlapped by everyone talking in game.

That would help.

That's been suggested and is something I'd like to look into brokencycle.

But the 40 pop cap is good because it stops you wasting your troops on 1 battle, when you need troops for the following battles.

Well... hmmm... If the pop cap is 40... And i'm using my largest company... That means my enemy has to destroy 3 capped off armies before he's defeated me... Is that bad or good?

Well, if he goes thru all 3 of your armies and only uses one of his, that's bad.  If he uses more troops than you, it's good. Wink

I don't think he could destroy my three armies with only one. Most of my units are upgraded, and grouped into platoons with mutually supporting units (machine gun crews, mortars, etc)

I can imagine people going through there capped off units in the first couple battle of the war only to be left with low troop counts the remainder of the time. Guess it really depends on how many recources are allocated every turn.
