So my mom's friend wants to get a new gaming computer, and asked me to build it. He said that he was prepared to spend 4 grand on it. I was like WTF SUPER COMPUTER. But, I told him I could make an uber one for under 2 grand. He said if I did he would pay me handsomely for my time. =D So, while he is out trucking "he is a truck driver" before he can come get it, guess who gets to play it? =D Anyway, this is the beast:
Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Casel EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard EVGA 768-P2-N881-AR GeForce 8800Ultra 768MB 384-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700W Power Supply Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8400 Kingston HyperX 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1200 (PC2 9600) Dual Channel Kit ViewEra V193D-SB Silver-Black 19" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor Creative 70SB046A00000 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty RAZER Lycosa RZ03-0018010 Black USB Standard Gaming Keyboard RAZER RZ01-00150100-R2M1 Black USB Optical DeathAdder High Precision Gaming Mouse
That CPU can overclock to 4 GHz per core on stock cooling. Ja. Tis gonna be one fast motha.

My only question...why the weak RAM? Why not a board (if the board can't support it, and if it already can why isn't it in there) of 1100's?

make sure that 700W psu is modular..cause my 500w needed to have a major soldier job do to the placement of the psu in the antec case...remember the psu is on the bottem of the 900 case

Bah, you're right. I was looking at the old mobo I had selected for him when I picked the RAM. THis one supports 1200.

Its not a big performance difference, but if you are going to be going all out you may as well do it right.

Yeah, the DDR2 1200 is damn expensive though. Either 2GB of PC 9600 or 4GB of PC6400.

Just get the PC 6400 and OC it. You can get good OC DDR2 800 for ~$50-70

4gb doesn't work without a 64bit OS. SO you need XP 64 or Vista 64 for it. Otherwise it caps at 3.25

It's going to be 32-Bit. I mean, honestly, who uses 64?

really no point in doing 64 currently IMO, not until it gets more useful at least.

Why the small case? Go for a full tower if this guy wants to dump $ on that.
A single ultra is not worth the price imho, I'd go with a 1kw power supply and pop in 2 8800 gtx's rather than spending the extra on ultras. Also, if you can why not go for a quad?

I keep it under 2 grand = more money for me. It's a very nice mid-tower. Amazing cooling.

It'll be a squeeze getting that all in there, I guarantee it. Also, make sure you replace the stock cooling on the c2d, there's nothing worse than an idiot who tries to overclock the c2d without proper cooling, you simply can't get anywhere near where you can with purchased coolers.

Dude, why the heck did you put a 19" monitor on something that is a gaming computer? Do you want the guy to be able to max at 1024x768? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
