Hey all,

Dunno if anyone was wondering, but as you can tell I haven't been on Vent in a several days.  The reason is I am in the process of setting up and overclocking my new computer!  I'm typing this from another comp while mine runs Memtest86. Yes, no longer will I be one of the slowest to load even at low detail levels!

My new rig:

Intel Core2Duo E8400
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R
Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme
2x1GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800
EVGA GeForce 8800 GT Superclocked
OCZ PowerStream 520W
WD Cavier SE16 500GB SATA HDD

 Grin

So I will probably be out the rest of the week between work, judo practice and overclocking.  But I will be back and enjoying the game in high detail mode!  Mwuhaha!

See everyone in a few days.

The odd system error was not worth the overclock to me.  Maybe mine just wasn't that good at OC'ing though.  I have a Q6850

What are the rest of your specs UCross?  And what did you try for an OC?

4 gigs ram, 8800GTX watercooled, Antec 900, and other stuff
I tried going simply from 3.0 to 3.4 ghz and like every month I'd have a random crash.

The speed was almost unnoticable, and the crash pissed the hell out of me.  So I figured why bother, it's pretty damn fast as is.

Were you prime95 stable for 12 hours?  What motherboard?  Did you boost the CPU and memory voltages?

Huh... that's really weird.  It shouldn't have had trouble.  Did you OC the video card?

Completely agree with Ucross.  I could run 15 copies of Prime all weekend, plus TAT and be fine.  But every once in a quite while I'd get a crash so I said the hell with it and just run at stock.

E6600
4GB DDR800
8800 GTS 640MB
Gigabyte 965P DS-3 (solid state capacitors)

Its not worth overclocking, speed is fine without it.

My guess would be a graphics card issue because that isn't tested by prime.  Could be the GPU itself is unstable, or the extra heat from the GPU during gaming tips you over the edge on stability, or the extra power draw on the GPU is too much.  Or I suppose it could just be some random whacked out computer voodoo  Wink

So far I'm running my E8400 at 3.6 solid, today trying for 3.8.  The chip should do 4.0, which starts to be a significant increase when it is 1.2 GHz faster than a stock Q6600 or E6600.

But to each their own!

I overclocked my 7600GT and it almost runs like a 7800 Smiley.
