I've just performed a staffing re-alignment.  Basically the balance team positions have been eliminated.  Balance will derive completely from the community.  That means you are responsible for making posts, demonstrating the imbalances, and backing up your findings.  I want to thank Unkn0wn, Apex, and Lai for their great contributions to the modification.  In addition, naradaman and Forefall have had their developer status removed mainly due to inactivity.  I hope this doesn't result in any bad blood between any of us, though I can certainly understand if they feel their work was in vain and they feel it's time to move on to something else.

Well, at least now people only have each other to bitch at when something is wrong.

Interesting to hear, I suppose I might have to post more in the forums then.

This seems like a nice step in making us feel "needed" so to speak and that our views are not ignored and poo pooed in the dev forum Tongue.

lets see how it turns out Smiley.

i don't think thats the truly intended direction cozmo... but it will result in us being more responsible for balance that arises.

by the way.. 2.0 will fix this issue Smiley

I like it as long as you keep the community informed on general directions so we have some sort of feeling that we are being heard to some degree.

With a growing community I really thinks this is not a feasible approach.
You now have 2 dev team members to read all the player's complaints and wishes, filter out the crap and actually turn it into proper output.

Imagine if Relic or any other game developer had to get all its feedback straight from a public forum.

That's why there's gatekeepers, community managers & a balance team.
People who play the game extensively, talk to the public, read their forums and forward the useful input (there's a lot of crappy input on public forums, mind you) to the actual developers who then process the output.

Have you seen the wiki?
It's a total mess and as far as I'm concerned a disaster.

Also, Buggo IS being the gatekeeper of the public wiki, filtering out most of the useless crap being posted there.

Actually; Buggo doesn't do that, shes in charge of community relations, not balance ect.

The acutal balance team does take balance suggestions from the forums/wiki which they've doing in the past.

That's what our balance team did too, gatekeeping.
They combine & filter player input + personal input and hand it over to the developers.

The developers/design team (1 dev & 1 designer in this case) would get overloaded if they had to go filter & process player input & worry about balance on top of what they already have to do.

I personally felt like what we were doing wasn't working, and I'm not sure this will work either.  In the end, it was a tough decision but one I felt I wanted to try, if only to alleviate the pressures from those in the community on the former balance team.  The balance team did act as gate keepers but the gates didn't work well because the complaints from the community came through heresy rather than any actual evidence (for example, ventrilo ranting vs actual forum posts and replays with analysis).

That is definately true and I personally feel that is due to the balance team members having been too close with the actual game development. I personally somewhat hoped you would've went for the middle path (perhaps a seperate forum of some sort) and maybe that can still be considered again, one day.

Anyway, I just wanted to state my opinion since I never had a chance to do so.
The books are closed now and I'll be continueing my task of map team lead, for now at least.

Did I say that?  I'll still help Ucross where I can, but FL axed me from the development too.  Lost my pretty color.  Sad

But at least I don't have to do platoon lists anymore.  Cheesy

Edit:  Oh, I got a new pretty color.  Sweet.   Smiley
