Hey dudes.  Just installed EiR a few days ago: I like it, it's pretty fun.  I'm getting SEVERE performance problems though, and it's surprising cause for one my computer is a beast, and second I've never had ANY performance issues playing regular CoH.  I get the occasional lag like everyone else, but my performance in EiR is SO bad on some maps that people running CoH on a x386 are pointing and laughing at me.  For those who know computers, I've got an E6700 @ 3.2 GHz with a 1066 FSB, 4 GB of sys mem, an 8800 GTS with 640 MB of vid mem that was factory OCed to 550 MHz and then further OCed by me to 615 MHz.  With this setup, I run CoH on ALL SETTINGS MAXED with no problems (even AA at 16xQ).  All this to say that it ain't my performance.

I also have EiR installed on a laptop with a T8100 @ 2.1 GHz and an 8600M GT 512 MB vid card.  The performance here is even worse than on my desktop, but again only on certain maps.

So what I want to know is have other people had this kind of problem?  What's the story?

Hmm... those settings should definitely cover EiR.  We have a lot of people playing on weaker comps.  Does turning down detail help your lag?  Does it only occur on EiR-specific maps?

I have a Q6600 OCed to 3.3 GHz, 2GB DDR2 1000, and a GeForce 8800GT 512 MB and am able to run EiR with maxed settings and the camera zoom out mod.

Europe In Ruins is extremely processor intensive due to the amount of scripting running.  I'd suggest lowering your settings and trying again.  If you are running DX10, I'd recommend you use DX9.  If you have Enviromental Reverb on in your Audio settings, I'd recommend you disable it.  Other than those two things, I run everything on high, with 4x CSAA on a E6600 non-overclocked with 4GB DDR800 and a 8800 GTS 640MB.  No lag whatsoever.

FL, can CoH/EiR take advantage of dualcore CPUs?

I think COH does, just not quad-cores.  EIR would depend on COH.

Keep in mind I've only been playing for a few days now, so I haven't tried them all.  Crossroads and Road to Carentan for example, run fine.  Rails and Metal on the other hand is pretty bad.  On my desktop I get slowdown over certain areas of the map, and on my laptop the entire game becomes a slide show.  I got kicked from my last game, my first deserved performance kick in the history of all my CoH games.  All three players (including my teammate) voted me off, so imagine how bad the performance was.

I'm gonna try and lower my settings like fldash is suggesting, but it still surprises me that I have to.  I mean, how many scripts can EiR be running?  So many that I have to lower my settings on the kind of computer I have?  I've got XP, so I'm using DX9.  Seems fishy...

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

My computer is weaker than yours and it works fine. I have a Athlon X2 4600, 8800 GTS 640, and 2 Gig Ram. I max out everything EXCEPT shadows or AA. Try turning the shadows low. And the AA off. It helps a lot. And DX10, too.
